Fraud/Theft Nightforce Scopes

Wow a lot of quebec haters around here ...... I see Laval come up often in these scams, there is definitely a corrupt circle of purchase and resell in that area

Honestly, everyone here on staff loves Quebec, great times have been had, it's just that there's a disproportionate level of fraud that originates from Laval specifically. Whether this is from lax local enforcement (don't bother trying to talk to the police locally), or just the size of the area I don't know.

Hmmm that's a good point. Do stolen/fraudulent items get flagged by nightforce?

It would be just deserts if something failed and they were denied warranty because it was purchased illegally

Don't know about nightforce, but we forwarded serials to Swaro, if they ever show up for warranty coverage they will be seized immediately.

Al Flaherty's
My comments we're certainly not directed to dealers.
All CGN dealers (except one that isn't here anymore) have given me stellar service

It's both. The population of Laval is about 1/2 a million, so quite a good chunk compared to cities of saskatchewan or manitoba. It's also the most corrupt place in Quebec (the former mayor just got sentenced to more years than what he has remaning for corruption), and generally the butt of most jokes.

The Laval PD is especially bad. It's underfunded and lacks training. It's imho the worst police department in Quebec and shouldn't even be allowed to police the area until a lot of changes are made. I'm not surprised that a lot of crimes come from that area, and kinda sad to say that P&D will not see any support from Laval PD.

If every retailer out there just plainly refused to ship anything to Laval (or wait 30 days until the funds are cleared), nobody here would be either surprised or offended. I wish you guys the best of luck, but don't hold your breath.

i lived few years in Quebec and i wont say that only the Laval police is a bad department ... SPVM just made the news again so i will say it is harder than everything to deal with them they have already too much to handle ....

I have been in touch with a few retailers in our industry and found out several have been taken in similar scams, even with the same suspect name. I will contact several more on Friday and try to set up some central info that we can all share. At this point I will limit this to retailers on CGN but may expand in the future. In the meantime everyone be aware. Phil.

Caveat Emptor. Is there any viable ways to verify a used product is not stolen. Mfr need to make it feasible to validate a product is not stolen if they intend to seize products with stolen serial numbers.

Yup, EE is looking worst every day.
"Washing" an item via one or more 'honest' transactions, does not void the fact that it is stolen property & there is a victim who is due their property or payment for that property.

Anyone stupid enough to pay the exorbitant credit card fee/interest deserves it.
Easy enough to have two cards with stmt dates two weeks apart. Use the one that just passed for ~6 weeks interest free period before paying in full. Good cards gives 2% cashback.

The 50% you quoted are idiots throwing their money away. A fool and his money are soon parted.
...
It's quite the racket they have themselves. +/- 3% per transaction on the merchant, +/- 2% per month per transaction on 50% of those transactions since the average person doesn't pay off every month.

All for offering "short term financing". Toss in the annual fees, additional cardholder fees, offering 1.5% back isn't even an expense with what it returns.

Hey, you know cash advances don't have an interest free period there, right? What you're suggesting don't work? Hasn't since the 90s.

Also, most cards only have a 20 day interest free period for purchases.

Maybe a little less harsh, there? Maybe?

Very true . Sadly this is how many thieves and scammers get rid of their stolen items is by washing them through resale to unsuspecting buyers . When buying used , if the price is to good to be true , then there is probably a reason for it . Sad to hear that the retailer took over a $7000 dollar hit in this scam .....

Wow, just finished reading thru this thread, and its crazy to me how many dealers have been scammed. So sorry to hear that.
It also seemed ridiculously unfair that the CC company would "authorize" those purchases and then the next day, chump you on them. They should definitely have to hear some burden of responsibility as well.
I also am a Visa/MC merchant, although not in the gun world, and will definitely now tighten up my security checks too.

OF COURSE cash advance don't have an interest free period otherwise I'd max out all my card with interest free loans. Only an idiot that did NOT read their T&C would not know that; more fools and their cash departed for being dumb enough to ever believe a credit card company would give interest free loan; they don't make billions by being stupid.
What I suggested works 100% on purchase, that is after all what this thread is talking about; done it for decades.
Charge item right after stmt, so next stmt is 4 weeks away. Add in 2 weeks to pay so ~6 weeks interest free.

Absolutely NOT harsh enough. Most Canadians are stupid with their money. Credit cards are the best shopping tools for wise shopper and disaster for idiots. Credit card companies makes billions on the fools who thankfully subsidize my interest free period and cashback.

For wise shoppers Go to RFD site to beat the system. Tons of tips and tricks there to legally make your money go farther.

I have just been advised by a CGN member that a similar scope #C545 ATACR has just been listed on Ebay from Quebec...be aware this might be ours (serial number has been blocked on the picture). Phil.

I know its difficult to tell but does any of your receipts look like the piece that is attached to the front of the box. I would also advise Ebay that the scope maybe stolen. I don't deal with them so I don't know how that works. Maybe use the "Report Item" link maybe?

It looks like the scope on EBay being sold from Quebec is being sold from a place that's only about a half hour from Laval too. Someone with an eBay account should message them and ask the serial number , say you want it to double check manufacture date or something along those lines. If they refuse to give you serial number then it's kinda suspect , if they give it to you then it can be determined if it's P dent's. Just a thought anyway.
