Op was being "waffly" Douglas........ as far as I am concerned, a PM is fair game..... get after it......

More 35 caliber affection: I have a 35 Whelen Remington 7400 - a rather unique chambering for an autoloader - and have taken Elk, Moose and Deer with it. Great for dispatching multiple targets in rapid succession. ;)

What are the plans for it?..... as I recall you brought the coveted .358 win?

I have factory stainless banded front sight, barrel band swivel and scalloped rear sight being installed and then it is being bedded into a lighter, stiffer stock.

The M77 RS Carbine 358 Win is a sweet little rifle.

yes it is ... Ganderite once owned a really pretty little Swedish Mauser 96 that had been rebarreled to 358W ... I cant recall if it was a carbine that had been converted but it was certainly a very nice rifle. I met a guy hunting who's brother worked for Epps... this fellow had a short mauser 98 with a 257 Roberts barrel on it ... barrel was a pencil with outstanding blueing on it...these are two rifles that really stand out in my memory and for which I was truly envious.

you should definitely keep collecting classics - and sell off some of the other stuff. You could start by sending the m7 MS in 350 my way. I would take good care of it if that helps you let it go. :)

My buddy has a 673 in .350 RM that I've been swooning over for a bit. Salivating even. Hoping it comes home with me one day. Some beauty rifles fellas. OP - I'd be keeping that one too.

3rd edition Hornady Handbook lists maximum 52.6 gr IMR4320 and their 250gr bullet at 2400 fps (22.5" 1:16 twist). By extrapolation, 2750 fps MV would require (2 gr / 100 fps) x (2750 - 2400) = 7 grains more, or about 60 gr behind a 250 gr bullet. That's 15% more powder.

Hot load or what??!

No actually it is not a hot load IN MY RIFLE, the primers are not flattened and there are no ejector marks using R-P brass, I could get another 50-75 fps if I used W-W '06 brass. The rifle has a long throat and the bullet is seated out a long ways. What you see in your Hornady manual quote is what happens when lawyers write loading manuals. You also have to remember that the Whelen has been around very nearly 100 years and has been chambered in all sorts of actions of varying strength. Manuals have to be written to the "lowest common denominator" so to speak, in other words in deference to the weakest actions. Mine is however on the famous Remington Model 700 action with 3 rings of the highest quality modern steel that locks up like a bank vault and contains 100,000 psi events like they are mouse farts..........I should be writing advertising copy for Remington!!!!!

Speer #8 shows 59 grns of IMR 4320 for 2543 fps (must be a slow barrel)..........so it all depends on which manual you choose to look at.

Seeing as we are into posting 35 cal rifle pics, here are mine.
Recently acquired from the EE a Model Seven CDL in 350 Mag. I mounted up a Leupold 2-7 Compact in Weavers for now.
Have yet to fire it.
The lower pic is my Whelen on a 1949 Model 70, 23"x 12" twist Shilen in a McMillan Hunters Edge. Bill Leeper did this up for me in 2012.

You can't talk about the 350 RM without one of the original model 600's, the only drawback is the short magazine. I used a model 7 stock on this one as the original stock was broken.

I did not know that Speer Reloading Manual No.8 has 35 Whelen load data. No.11 doesn't but No.12 does so I thought that's when Speer 35 Whelen load data first began. For my own edification I will have to go chase down a copy and have a look.

For reference, in Big Bore Rifles & Cartridges Ken Waters wrote an article (35 Whelen Update). His test rifle is a 22" barrel Remington 700 with 0.3" of freebore. Note the IMR4320 amounts used.

Out of curiosity - what OAL can you load in the M600 magazine and feed ok? ... I have been loading 225 Partitions in my 350 Rem Mag to an OAL of 2.833/2.835 for a Rem 700 Classic factory 350 Rem. I 'might' be able to go a tiny bit more but not sure if I would be happy with the rounds feeding 'up' through and from the mag without catching .... I wonder just how big a difference in real life we are dealing with between the 600 and 700 actions.

Regardless of reloading technicalities a 35 cal 225gr partition drops deer where they're shot!

The Ruger mag box let's me seat to 2.895"
Accuracy is almost varmint rifle quality... I'd do an accuracy challenge but I can't afford the bullets with 35cal partitions passing $80/50 bullets.
