Rem 700 Classic 350 Rem Mag

Regardless of reloading technicalities a 35 cal 225gr partition drops deer where they're shot!

The Ruger mag box let's me seat to 2.895"
Accuracy is almost varmint rifle quality... I'd do an accuracy challenge but I can't afford the bullets with 35cal partitions passing $80/50 bullets.

IMO that qualifies as passing the 'accuracy' challenge for a hunting rifle. FWIW I have found that the 200gr SP seem more accurate in my rifle than the 225 Partition ... but I havent really done the sort of extensive testing that would be definitive... just a passing observation..

I did not know that Speer Reloading Manual No.8 has 35 Whelen load data. No.11 doesn't but No.12 does so I thought that's when Speer 35 Whelen load data first began. For my own edification I will have to go chase down a copy and have a look.

For reference, in Big Bore Rifles & Cartridges Ken Waters wrote an article (35 Whelen Update). His test rifle is a 22" barrel Remington 700 with 0.3" of freebore. Note the IMR4320 amounts used.

Speer No. 8 has the .35 Rem, .358 Win, .35 Whelen, .350 Rem Mag, and .358 Norma Magnum fwiw...

No. 11 adds the 357 Magnum Rifle and the 356 Winchester but drops the 35 Whelen for some reason.

I guess you have to keep buying them... but they are addictive - like popcorn

(edit to add .. and #12 adds the 35 Whelen back again - it doesnt look like I have #9 and #10)

Well hell, if we're showing off 350s...........350 is the front, or lowest one in this photo.........Mod 7 MS Custom Shop

I call first dibs on the is 350. How does the ms barrel profile compare to the standard m7 magnum profile?

3rd edition Hornady Handbook lists COAL as 2.930" for 350 RM Remington Model 600 carbine (18.5" 1:16 barrel). I thought the Ruger allows for a longer COAL than that??
I didnt think a 600 box is that long - although that is why I asked ... I have a 'Mohawk' 308w here somewhere and might just measure it one day ... but I assumed that the 350 Rem Mag Model 600 had slightly different dimensions - certainly in width anyway. The measurement I gave above is for a reload - conservative - I did in 225 Nosler for the 350 Rem Mag 700 Classic I have. I sat the bullet out to a length I was satisfied would not hang up in the magazine so there is some clearance - although I certainly wouldnt load longer and be comfortable of it properly feeding freely from the mag.

And this is my Mod 7 KS

those full stocked rifles are very elegant! would be pretty hard to improve on those ... unless you add a 4th one!! :) I reloaded for a friend who had a 7/08 'KS' ... it was a very fine rifle. He sold me a Sako .243w Mannlicher in order to buy the KS - we were both very happy at the time!

Out of curiosity - what OAL can you load in the M600 magazine and feed ok? ... I have been loading 225 Partitions in my 350 Rem Mag to an OAL of 2.833/2.835 for a Rem 700 Classic factory 350 Rem. I 'might' be able to go a tiny bit more but not sure if I would be happy with the rounds feeding 'up' through and from the mag without catching .... I wonder just how big a difference in real life we are dealing with between the 600 and 700 actions.

I load 200 gr. TSX with TAC powder at 2800 FPS
OAL. 2.775 is at max length for this action

That's for the 600 in the picture I posted

Ok sorry -- short memory here and had to go back a page to see your rifle :)))... so, assuming your OAL is feeding smoothly and without hangups, the real life difference is not too big a deal OAL. 2.775 vs 2.835 ... I guess Remington didnt see a reason to chamber the short action 700 in 350 originally ... not that there is anything wrong with either rifle.

I have had the best loads with TAC
from my book after working up
Barns 200 gr. TSX
62 grs TAC
Rem 91/2 primer
OAL 2 775
3 shot avg. 2817 Fps
I use a magnetospeed sporter

Is that book speed or chronographed? That's good speed - I need some TAC

I have some 200gr Spirepoints that have 'my' chrony speeds of 2844 with R/P brass, CCI primers (not sure if they are 200 or 250's though) and 65gr of H380 3 shots were grouping at 1 1/4 inch (first two at 3/4 -- so extrapolating - 5 shots at 1 3/4? -- say under two inches....but mostly the shooter!! :))

Thanks guys, I have been using 4895 (if I remember correctly) but haven't been impressed with actual speeds. I figured it was combo of a slow barrel and only 20" of it. I will have to do some testing with other powders.

Slamfire ... FWIW .. the 'FOURTH' Edition of the Hornady Manual ALSO lists 2.930 for COAL of the 350 RM and specifies the Model 600 as well ... I also briefly mentions that the 700BDL was available in 350RM which I didnt know ... I thought only the limited edition Classic 700 was chambered that way .. live and learn. I growing a little more suspicious of the 2.930 COAL for a 600 though. SAAMI shows the COAL as 2.730 - 2.800

another option is IMR4320 - I show 60gr of IMR4320 R/P brass CCI 250 Primer, 225gr Nosler Partition running from 2610/2624 ... using my 'Chrony' -- my cryptic note says: "Good load" with a 'check mark'... (for whatever that is worth!) .. but there is definitely nothing shoddy about a 225 Partition at 2600 fps

7th edition Hornady Handbook lists 2.955" COAL for a Remington 600 350 Rem. Mag. (18.5" 1:16 barrel), and a rather impressive 2700 fps MV maximum with 200gr bullets.

For comparison, the 350 Rem. Mag. SI (Slamfire Improved ;)) boasts a COAL of 3.200". On my to-do list to see how fast I can safely fire 200gr TSX bullets. I would conjecture ~3100 fps.
