First off, love this rifle! Shoots great, light, and eats surplus like store ammo and groups well. However on my second outing I was sighting in a temp scope I had when I noticed the stock has a 1 3/4" crack in the stock staring at the top mounting screw near the magwell.

I know Dlask no longer deals with CZ warranty, Grech isn't the most popular or trusted here from what I've read. Tenda won't switch a stock on a 6 month old rifle but if I can get CZ to talk to them they will be the middle man. I also don't want to be without the rifle while I wait for a year for the repair, or exchange the rifle for a new one as this one shoots great. Has anyone been able to just get the stock replaced under warranty at the LGS they bought it at?

The irony is that this was one of the best trips I'd had this season. I was able to do three 5 shot groups, all rounds touching, with a witness, at 65m from a portable table and sand bags. Much better than I was doing with iron sights. This was with a $75 Simmons 3-9x 40 Prosport scope. I was in heaven! Then I flip it over to show my buddy how the mag release works and the sun shows this crack. You can't even see it in the house, or the Tenda store, without a flashlight. I've only fired about 100 rounds through it so far but I expect the crack will grow over time and use.

I could get another MDT stock but I like the light wood for both function and looks. It really ended up bumming out my day...

TIA

I forget the name of the glue that Lea Valley sells but it vary thin and swells the wood and glues it tight it's good stuff just in case the warranty thing becomes a pain

Thanks for the option. I was wondering about carpenters glue, as I have it, but this is thin and I'm not sure how to get it into the crack so it stops spreading. Also worried that it would void the warranty, so as noted by you...last option.

If you spoke to Tenda (retailer you purchased from?), are they not contacting CZ on your behalf to get warranty......If they have, what was the answer?

I feel your pain. My cz 527 stock had a crack after about 100 rounds which in turn became a sizeable chunk, break off. In the rear tang/safety area. I came to conclusion it was because the action screws had worked loose and then then the movement gave the spot a hit with every shot. I have no intention of giving this rifle up so I used epoxy based glue on the crack. And make sure the action screws are tight with a drop of blue lock tight on them. I was also having issues with the mag catch spring clip. The action screws were to blame for this also. Im thinking glue the crack and possibly bed the tang of the stock. Maybe Boyd's can make a replica stock with a nice laminate or higher quality wood.

No, Tenda didn't want to deal with it unless I contacted CZ first and provided a contact name, email, etc. They did state that Grech deals with all CZ warranty issues in Canada now, and all they would do is forward it to them, so I was better off dealing with Grech directly. It did sound like if I pushed things they would do it but I would have to remove the scope and they would have no control on how the warranty would be resolved. (So a replacement rifle, rather than just the stock was possible. Also how long it would take they couldn't say as that was up to Grech.)

In the past I had a new Ruger rifle arrive home only to find the magazine catch was broken. Al Flaherty's replaced it when I brought it back a few days later without issue. I was hoping for the same treatment but can understand as this is an entire stock.

I'd go MDT if I had to replace the stock. But as these have a 5 year warranty, and the rifle came this way, I was hoping to have CZ/Tenda just swap it out as the simplest and fastest solution. Now I'm worried I'll loose accuracy, but I know it's going to break if I don't do something about it now. I like the wood stock just fine, if it will last, but I haven't removed it yet to see how it looks from under the barrel.

the rifle was cracked from day one? I thought you just noticed it now after shooting it a 100rnds or so?

That is how it works unfortunately and as a result, I only deal with retailers who will deal with warranty (in the odd chance that I need it) in house. This is why they are making money off me in the first place through the sale after all.

You should not have to contact the manufacturers claims department yourself if you bought from a brick and mortar retailer. Unfortunately, you are at the mercy of the manufacturers warranty if the retailer will not exchange the rifle and send that one in for warranty replacement, which you also mentioned you don't want to do.

I could see it being an issue if it was a custom ordered unit that took a year or two to get in the first place, but a 527 off the shelf is just that

CZ US wasn't much help and said to contact the factory, but failed to provide an email address so I've just tried one I found. Waiting for a reply at the moment.

Some good news. After contacting CZ http://www.czub.cz/ and filling out the online complaint form I heard back from the sales manager a few days later. He asked for my serial number, model, and store I bought it from. I emailed back photos of the sales slip, rifle info, and the crack. I also asked if the replacement stock could be sent to the LGS to swap out rather than having me send it away.

Five days later I get an email from Tenda telling me that they have my stock and would I like to pick it up or have it mailed. I almost flew out the door in my rush to get it.
It looks as good as the original minus the crack. Just waiting to hear what inch pounds I should tighten it to before calling this one finished.

I'm very happy with CZ, my 527, quickly they looked into my issue, and had a replacement sent to my LGS. A quality product is great, but the service behind it is just as important and CZ has both!

This is very good news Zen.

I love this rifle but all the recent cracked stock stories have been a turn off. Please let us know the inch pounds when the give you the information. Hope this is the end of it and you have no further problems with the new stock.

for you to get warranty service so quickly and the retailer you purchased from was unwilling to even attempt to contact the manufacturer to get the same result is very poor customer service.

I don't know about recent stories but CZ has a history of cracked stocks. Don't get me wrong as I am a huge fan of CZ rifles but their wood stocks seem very susceptible to cracking, I don't know if it is the way that they dry and treat the wood but they crack very easily. I had a CZ 527 that had a cracked stock right in the tang area from being dropped on to a carpeted floor when I was wiping it down with oil after a coyote hunt (sitting lap height) When I was researching a fix for the stock, I found a lot of other fellows with the exact same problem and this was over 5 years ago. Glad to hear that the company is stepping up to take care of the OP though.
