PAL Wait Time

Now sitting at 375 days waiting for my non-restricted. Call once per month and they say, "We are backlogged, I'll send an email to the CFO. Call back in 4-6 weeks".

Go in person to the CFOs office, or phone the local CFOs office. Be polite, explain the year wait and ask if they could review your file.

I thought about that. Problem is their office is about 3 hours away and I would hate to waste a trip if they just turn me around at the door. (worth it if they don't) I'm not sure how they handle drop-ins, they definitely seem annoyed by my monthly phone-calls.

I would annoy them even more and make weekly phone calls after the amount of time you have waited

That's got to be BS - it's not like everyone in BC is waiting a year+ for their license - I'm sure people who applied after you are getting their PAL.

As for me...I'm at 37 days since mailing it off (April 18), but still nothing online, and no money withdrawn from my account. I called again today, and they have nothing in the system. Lady on the phone said that it probably will come online next week...here is hoping.

They're backlogged in BC, but only to an extent. In his case because it's a PAL and not RPAL it would have been approved automatically many months ago. Even if he had checked yes on one of the boxes, unless there's something NotAbotBC isn't telling us then he should have his PAL by now. I would call in and ask to speak with a CFO, if you're denied then request a callback from one as over a years wait is long enough to determine if someone is eligible for a PAL or not. Just be polite, but firm.

It'll be 6 months for my PAL/RPAL application on June 3rd, same speech of "I'll send an email to the CFO, call back in 4-6 weeks". I did hit yes on a checkbox so I expected to wait longer, but it's getting to that point where is it really a backlog??

All my boxes were checked no. Haven't even had a speeding ticket in the last five let alone any other negative contact with the police. I asked to speak to the CFO a while back but I will try again. The callback is a good idea. I also emailed him directly.

Did you guys just get passport photos done when submitting your application? OR what is the easiest way to send in the photo?

Thanks

Passport size photos don't fit the dimension requirements for the PAL license.

You should've gotten a document that shows the dimension requirements for the photo. You can take the photo yourself as long as it fits the criteria.

I haven't heard of anyone being delayed because they sent in a passport sized photo, however you don't want them to have even the smallest reason to delay the application (it takes long enough as it is).

Application came online today at last. Going to call tomorrow and ask if they need anything from me. I'm only applying for a PAL, so hopefully they won't want references to call in, and the rest will go by smoothly.

EDIT: called today, they said they didn't need anything from you, and reference checks were not needed. She told me ~2 weeks until my application was done. Its going to the BC CFO, so that 2 weeks could be like, 6 months.

(Alberta, non-restricted (sorry)) I did my course early February and sent out my application right away.

Received: Feb 15

Completed initial processing late February

No progress since. I called the RCs once, before it showed up, as I was worried the tape would come undone in the mail. Not received, call back later. I called back when it showed up online asking if they needed anything from me and they said nope just be patient. I called back in a week and they said it was now with the CFO for final approval (early to mid March?). I called the CFO and asked if they needed anything from me and they said no they were waiting to review it (late March). I called back late April and they said to call back in a month with the same story as before. I called just last week (late May) and they said it was awaiting review and to give it a couple weeks.

I have checked yes on one of the questions since I was on mild antidepressants in University but it really shouldn't be a big deal. I wonder how long I will have to wait still? The big crunch is gone since the UN crap has been deferred so not as big a deal as before but still what a wait!

BTW has anyone noticed that the women on the phone are usually really cold and dismissive, and the men are the helpful ones that go through the trouble of telling you what is going on?

My experience - just the opposite ... extremely helpful and polite ladies (Miramichi and Barrie(ON CFO)) and almost rude gens ...
