Has anyone owned bolt the M&P9 1.0 and the M&P9 2.0?
Is it worth selling the 1.0 and buying the 2.0 or should I just upgrade my 1.0 with the good old Apex accessories? (trigger, barrel, extractor, etc.)

I was torn with this.
I choose to add the apex ram kit and the comp spring set.
The cost was about 80 Canadian. But I'm still left wondering if the 2.0 is really better like you.

My S&W M&P appears to be an early version, serial number MPX4###, and believe it or not, the trigger is really good. I have done nothing to upgrade, as this auto needs nothing.

I would not upgrade as I like my M&P. Supposing I was looking for a reasonable cost, quality 9mm auto. The candidates would be the M&P 2.0, Sig P320, Glock 17, Ruger American pistol, Beretta APX, FN 509, CZ P10C, & the Remington polymer gun. So many choices...I think that choice might come down to best price, included accessories, and extra magazine costs.

The APX is unproven and like all the other polymer striker fired guns, just another Glock wannabe. The FN 509 is also unproven and has a prohibited barrel length as does the CZ P10C. The Remington RP9 is an absolute abortion with more issues than Time magazine. You're left with the Ruger American(average at best and honestly the SR9 has a far better trigger than the American), the M&P in either generation even though the changes that were made to the 2.0 were either cosmetic or were fixes for problems that existed from the get go(Like the crappy trigger and the "auto forwarding" due to weak magazine springs or a bad slide lock design. The removal of the beavertail is comical and makes you wonder of S&W has a clue what they're doing or are they just trying to offer what they think the public wants). That leaves the 320 which is an alright gun but still a wannabe Glock and it too has issues, and of course the Glock. So the choices are far fewer than you think when it comes to reasonable cost in a quality striker fired pistol from the ones in your list. you make a very valid point regarding support. The 320, the M&P and the Glock are quite well supported whereas the rest are not supported.

ETA: As for the original question of "upgrading" from a gen 1 to gen 2. No, I don't see the benefits.

Not sure about upgrading, but I have shot the 1.0, and the 2.0. The 2.0 is a better gun, but would I sell a 1.0 for a 2.0, not sure I would, but if I was looking to get into the striker fired, poly gun game, I would definitely look at the M&P 2.0. Oh ya, I did buy a 2.0.......cheers

Before the 2.0 was released S&W shared promo pics of them with a thumb rest but have yet to see it on one.

I think you were looking at the manual safety. The gun is being produced with a manual safety as an option.

As to the original question from what I have read on the M&P forum Ver 2 has some notable improvements but most think they are not enough justification to move to the Ver2. For me I will stick with Ver1 as they still shoot better than I can manage out of them as witnessed when I let a Master shooter use them. If I didn't own a Ver1 I think I would likely pay a little more for the newer version over the first unless funds were tight.

At $589 it's hard to go wrong with the 2.0. Is it worth the upgrade? Maybe. Other than the slight trigger improvement the aspect I enjoy most about my 2.0 is the aggressive texture on the grip. The 1.0's have a "slicker than snot" grip and I get much more control with the 2.0's grip.

The grip panel slickness can be solved rather quickly with a hobby soldering gun. If you do only the removable grip the gun remains legal in SSP for IDPA shooters. I use skate board tape on the front grip area. Your point is valid though the Ver 2 grip texture is a significant improvement. Where did you see the $589 pricing for the gun? For those who don't own a Ver1 the decision at that price is a no brainer.

Permanent modifications impact resale value.

Don't you mean the Glock is just a wanna be Heckler & Koch VP70? After all it was the first polymer frame striker fire handgun. It came out 12 years before the Glock. Don't you hate when gun companies copy someone else's idea instead of coming up with something original?

As for the OP's original question, my Glock free opinion ;) would be no, its not worth it. But that is just me. In my full size 9 I put the Apex competition action enhancement kit in. Makes for a very nice trigger. That said I like the more aggressive grip texture on the 2.0. I want a full size 40 so that will be a 2.0 when I buy it, but I won't be selling my 9 just to get a 2.0.

I really like the grip of the M&P 2.0 and the trigger is a significant improvement over the first gen. Just those two features alone was enough for me to decide on the 2.0 when I thought that's the gun I was going to get. But then I ended up going with the gun I wanted which is the CZ P-09. However I don't know what I would do if I had already owned a first gen M&P. If I could get a better trigger and change the back strap for a nice stippled one id be happy enough with that.

I have the first gen M&P 9. I thought I was happy with the trigger until I upgraded with the Apex kit. I like it much better now, and the install is very easy.

The replaceable grip panels I believe are less than $5.00 on Brownells website. So stippling the replaceable grip panels is not a permanent modification. I agree stippling the frame as some do would impact resale value.

For those with Ver1 of the pistol if all you do is replace the firing pin block made by Apex you will find a great improvement on the trigger. Replacing the the trigger return spring with a lighter one will reduce the trigger pull. For those on a budget you can save yourself some money by just doing those two mods.

Storm Lake barrel & Truglo sights! My upgrades now cost the same as the gun, but I've been building and customizing motorcycles all my life, so I know what wasting money is all about. Bought my Electraglide for $21 grand, and put $24 grand worth of chrome and customizing into it! BWAHAHAHAHA it's just money they print it every day!

Where's a good place to pick up the Apex Forward Set Sear & Trigger Kit, bonus points for Mil/Leo Discount?
I know CTCSupplies has it in stock an a 5% Discount, anywheres else?

I got mine from CTC.

Advice - if you need to watch Youtube videos to do the install, don't watch the Apex ones. They suck. There's lots of indie ones that are better and clearer.
