In 100 mile , especially the 103 and 108 , the citizens of the area are fighting the fires and saving each others homes. The mayor and law enforcement are trying to prevent them from doing so. We are running road blocks at night on the back roads to bring in fuel for water pumps and essentials.
I am not trying to take away from the fire fighters efforts, nor the efforts of emergency personel, including rcmp and traffic flaggers but in many places around 100 mile they are hindering efforts of people with the proper and adequate equipment to assist and save thier own properties.
In town itself, many people were down at the evacuation center and had no time to race home for thier cats, dogs, budgies ect when the call came out.
The majority of people in 100 mile evacuated about 1/2 hour before the official announcement as we all heard it over the police scanner when the fire boss announced the fire had broken the lines above town at the 101 and behind the mill. I was there, watching and hearing it all happen.
There are dozens of reports of folks, like single moms with kids and pets and having to take the kids and leave the pets in hopes they could be or would be retrived by emergency personel.
I don't see an SPCA animal shelter or evacuation assitance truck parked down at the 100 mile vetrinary clinic that is reopening shortly to assist...... The Monical Family has been absolute heros to many families here, and are among the ranchers in the midst of the fire working selflessly to help save homes . The 100 Mile Free Press reporters Max and Tara are doing an outstanding job of keeping us all better informed than any other source including the 100 mile mayor , cariboo regional district and the province itself. Those two deserve some journalism awards after this is all done.... No fake news and getting us facts and daily updates.
anyhow..... people need help so get out there and do what you can, from home or head to an evactuation center to volunteer. I'm gonna hold fast here on the outskirts of town, a few short KM from the fire and help where i can.
