Hey fellow CGN'ers just got off the BC SPCA webpage and made a donation as they are providing temporary homes to evacuated animals during this fire borne holocaust currently underway in central BC. Red Cross is already providing some monetary relief to evacuees to help offset hotel expenses etc. While listening to the radio yesterday the SPCA rep was asking for donations to help as many of the evacuation shelters do not allow pets and alternate places need to be found. Seems like this fire situation is just getting warmed up (pun intended) so the SPCA is trying to get temporary animal shelters underway. Money talks.

Did you read this part: http://spca.bc.ca/wp-content/uploads/BC_SPCA_Position_Statement_Hunting.pdf

Not a great fan of the BCSPCA due to this, although what they are doing now is what they are designed for. Part of the 100 million the BC government just found should go to them for this purpose in my honest opinion. It would only take a small percentage of that to help out in this case. Due to their policy on hunting, misguided representation of hunting to the general public, and bad, cherry picked science to support this position, they wont see a cent from me.

While I can appreciate your stance, I'm not sure, imo, this is the point to make a political stand... it's a major emergency and our fellow pet owning provincial neighbours are in need of support....

If they don't want a political response they shouldn't make political statements.

That's not a fair statement... of course they have a position on hunting and I have no problem with anyone addressing that if they so choose... imo, making that the major issue right now while people and pets have been rendered homeless...

It's your call but personally I would prefer to help and address their policies I don't like when half the province isn't on fire . Just my opinion...

I won't give a dine to the Red Cross, every disaster they so called help out at, only a small part of the money goes to that disaster relief. A huge chunk goes to administration and executive bonuses. I would much rather donate bottled water and food.

I absolutely agree that what is going on in the province is horrible. I only made my post since this is the hunting portion of the forums. If it wasn't here, I would not have commented.

Why would they accept money from hunters?

Bottled water and food is not a good donation unless they're specifically asking for that. The costs associated with getting those things to where they need to be is not cheap, and if you donate money not only can they reduce shipping costs by purchasing closer to ground zero,c their bulk buying power means they can get a lot more for $1 than you can. I don't know exactly how it works for the Red Cross, but I know the food bank can get three times the food that you can with the same amount of money.

I had a quick read of that link... and yeah... that should likely be addressed... from what I have seen hunters are quite ethical and I find it hard to believe that they think hunting is worse then say... the explosion of the human population or the highly questionable practices of some of the meat production industry...

In any case, what is happening in B.C. is very concerning for everyone and I'm glad the ccfr is trying to help store firearms for people and the spca is trying to help people with their pets.

I read a post on FB where a lady basically had to release her horses cuz she was being evacuated and didn't want them trapped... tough times for many...

Why would they accept money from hunters?
Do they ask if you are a hunter on the donation page... you are free to take a stand as you see fit obviously... but personally, I'm more interested in helping displaced people and tgeir families then holding out on them simply to reinforce a point that probably has nothing to do with them... and will more then likely be lost in all the chaos...

Donate to the Canadian Red Cross, the Sally Anne or any other Not for profit society that is trying to help.
If one wants to donate then send it to the local food banks.
Why make a political statement when one is not needed...take the Moral High road and maybe some minds will change for the better.
Really, is it that hard to help out a neighbor because they have a different political color in a time of need?
Rob

you folks outside the fire zones want to help?
open up your homes and yards. Physically go to an evacuation center and find someone in need and help them.

I don't think folks understand the gravity of what is happening to us up here when i see people arguing about where there donations should go.
We are in crisis here
rent a horse trailer and get the #### up here
rent a flat deck and get it up here
fill that flat deck with water, blankets, cat food, dog food, essentials like diapers, head ache remover, kids stuff and get it to prince george or kamloops. People need animal carriers, temporary fencing for sectioning off animal areas... leashes, collars.... ect.

!00 mile house Town is evacuated. Hwy 24 is open right thru to edge of town just before the hospital. There IS access to horse lake area/ranchettes and east. This area is currently SAFE. Supplies can be had at lone butte and interlakes.
Access is open to Canim Lake/Forest grove Via Mahood Lake road.

if you own a vacation property close to the horse lake/bridge lake area, rest assured your property is not on fire or at risk of fire at this time.
I'm at the southwest end of Horse lake so if anyone needs updates, message me.
Donations should go to red cross..... spca can kiss my ass as they use this fire as a donation gathering tool.

The 100 mile fire is holding WEST of the hwy at the canim hendrix and 103/105/108
we have lost homes in these areas and I'll be heading out on the back roads shortly to help run fuel in to run water pumps.

crazy times ahead..... please pray for heavy rains.
to all those affected stay strong and if you are here and need any assistance..... message me.

Have to admit I was not aware of the BC SPCA shortcomings as mentioned by some previous posters. Just figured they had the organization to set up temporary shelters, foster homes etc in this time of very dire need. The fact remains there is a crisis that is accelerating every day. Woke up to heavy rain here north of Smithers today. We are in very good shape compared to the rest of the province. ACP has some good suggestions and we all need to pay attention and help out any way possible. This is worse than the Kelowna fires in 2003 which is saying something. Good luck to those in the line of fire.

Prince George has put the call out for volunteers at the evacuation centers, I don't have a current link but it is on Global BC website.
show up cash if you are looking to donate.

Some folks are still looking to escape the evacuation alert areas on north side of 100 mile house east of fire out to canim lake including the forest grove, buffalo creek, ruth lake , hawkins lake ect. LOTS of old timers out that way with no insurance and little help. Please check in with those you know and offer help any way you can.

It's a fuggen war zone up here my wife says..... she survived sarejevo so that means ####s for real.

sorry to hijack the spca thread but there is need that many folks in the big cities just can't fathom and the news just does not portray.
For all the small animals stuck in peoples homes in the municipal district of 100 mile house..... Hope the SPCA has a plan to get them out as the Police are not letting anyone back in to rescue pets left behind.... there is NO PLAN in place for this here and i doubt immediate donations to them are gonna change that today or yesterday or the day before.
these animals are going on Day 3 with no food and water

You are not hi-jacking a thread, it is the topic under discussion. One comment that was made was to write with chalk or whatever on the barns that animals are evacuated or not. Making it simple for any rescue people. They also advocated if animals cannot be evacuated they should be turned loose so they have a chance. Any pets can usually leave with the people. The weather is in charge right now so let us hope for the right turn. From watching the news the fire fighters are pretty much trying to save people's houses etc. the fires are not contained.

In 100 mile , especially the 103 and 108 , the citizens of the area are fighting the fires and saving each others homes. The mayor and law enforcement are trying to prevent them from doing so. We are running road blocks at night on the back roads to bring in fuel for water pumps and essentials.
I am not trying to take away from the fire fighters efforts, nor the efforts of emergency personel, including rcmp and traffic flaggers but in many places around 100 mile they are hindering efforts of people with the proper and adequate equipment to assist and save thier own properties.
In town itself, many people were down at the evacuation center and had no time to race home for thier cats, dogs, budgies ect when the call came out.
The majority of people in 100 mile evacuated about 1/2 hour before the official announcement as we all heard it over the police scanner when the fire boss announced the fire had broken the lines above town at the 101 and behind the mill. I was there, watching and hearing it all happen.
There are dozens of reports of folks, like single moms with kids and pets and having to take the kids and leave the pets in hopes they could be or would be retrived by emergency personel.
I don't see an SPCA animal shelter or evacuation assitance truck parked down at the 100 mile vetrinary clinic that is reopening shortly to assist...... The Monical Family has been absolute heros to many families here, and are among the ranchers in the midst of the fire working selflessly to help save homes . The 100 Mile Free Press reporters Max and Tara are doing an outstanding job of keeping us all better informed than any other source including the 100 mile mayor , cariboo regional district and the province itself. Those two deserve some journalism awards after this is all done.... No fake news and getting us facts and daily updates.

anyhow..... people need help so get out there and do what you can, from home or head to an evactuation center to volunteer. I'm gonna hold fast here on the outskirts of town, a few short KM from the fire and help where i can.

I can't in good conscience support the SPCA no matter how decent certain aspects of their platform are. They vehemently oppose hunting, and in particular bow hunting. They came and harassed my father in law who is disabled, waking him from a medication induced sleep to badger him about shooting crows with a pellet gun, which he was not doing. He doesn't have the capacity to and can't even stand for extended periods, nor does he even own a pellet gun. They forced him to provide ID, which much to my surprise it seems they're authorized to demand, and issued a "warning" when they clearly were on the wrong road. They're a PETA style organization that has upsides PETA doesn't.
