It is a nice build but it looks more like a Colt 653 with M16 sling, a1 pistol grip and the retro 5/20rd mag.

Still a nice looking rifle.

Winner of the correct configuration for a 1986 to early 90s C8. Very nicely done, complete with "Thermelt" Magazine!

IIRC, we ditched the Thermold mags for aluminum 30-rounders around 1995. I'm not sure when we got the C8A1 with the flat-top and C79, but I carried a brand-new 1986 C8 when I deployed to A'stan in Jan 02 with the black, Canadian-issue aluminum mags. By the time I went back in Feb 08 the C8A1 had been removed from operational service and we (Oerational Mentoring and Liaison Teams) were issued brand new C8 Flat-Top Heavy Barrel carbines - basically, the Colt Canada "Special Forces Weapon" by a different name.

Flat top C8 with skinny 14.5" barrel showed up in Kabul during OP Athena Roto 0, 2003. Never saw any in Canada.
They came with EOTech 552s and the Surefire Classic Weaponlight was also issued with pressure pad and universal barrel mount with Weaver ring.

That's because they were never official, issued nor adopted, they used C7A1 flat top uppers and installed C8 barrels specifically for Afghanistan because we didn't have flat top C8s at the time.

Yes. C8A1 was never official but IIRC these were brand new factory rifles. It was not something put together by a wpns tech which actually would have been easiest but then someone would scream illegal mod and have the guy charged.

There was only 150 of them.

The retard in the CF for everyone to be exactly the same was beyond all reason and logic.

My C8A1 Build with EoTech 552 (Manufacture date 2002). Was going to use a peel washer on the FS but it's to big for liking on a pencil barrel. I regret selling my Diemaco carry hande sight now.

I got a couple questions.

Do these have M4 feed ramps and If not are they even necessary?

How is the reliability compared to other 14.5" - 16" AR's

Thanks
Moe
