BCL102 Range Review, SECOND RANGE TRIP POST 123!!!

Consider it dropped.

On another note, I couldn't wait for the IOP and signed up for one of the few re-released for the second preorder :dancingbanana:

Come on you two, you are destroying this thread, if you want to argue do it by PM

This is CGN! Every one of us (definitely me) has derailed a thread at some point. It happens.

So has anyone tried any 130 grain TTSXs yet? I'm looking at the load data and have some W748 & H4895 to try. I'm hoping that with the shorter barrel the slightly quicker powders and lighter pills might show good velocity, accuracy & reliability. I have no clue though because I haven't even seen a 102 in the wild yet.

Had my first serious range trip today.

I was really disappointed with the performance of 165gr accubonds. They were shooting 5+ MOA, with crazy fliers. I thought my rifle was just garbage, because i figured the accubonds should be a decent projectile.

Then I switched to a load using a really old box of Sierra 165gr HPBTs. First group was 1 MOA, then 1.5, 1.5, and 1 MOA again. The load was 42gr Varget, 2.800 COAL, 0F Lapua brass.

Very happy now. I will be trying 178gr ELD-X next. Will also be lightening up my armalite 2 stage trigger a bit more.

125gr pills up to 3000fps with 4198. But need adjustable gas block for upper end of loadings otherwise cycling is too fast. Have seen plenty of 1.3moa. Working on better still.

Throttle_monkey1: 46.0 R-15 has been my best load with 130 TTSX so far, 1.7" and 1.8" groups. (3@100)

JaredP: I loaded 41.0 R-15 to try a couple of 175 smk I had left, and loaded some 180 B.Tips and A.Bonds at the same time just to see. 175's 1.9", B.Tips 6" plus and 180 A.Bonds 3.5". I was disappointed for sure, mostly because A.Bonds are my go to hunting bullet, not in this rifle!

Surprisingly poor results today with federal premium gold metal match 175 grain siera matchking BTHP.

Groups around 3".

Anyone else noticing the 102 seems to prefer lighter projectiles?

Yup. My best groups are with 150s, but 168s and 165s seem to be showing potential.

If anyone has watched the Magpul APR dvd, there's a section where they talk about using a specific technique for all the guns on the line - one of which is an SR25/M110 or facsimile thereof. They mention that the guns need to be torqued up and load placed into the bipod so I wonder if these guns would respond well to different shooting techniques.

If you try different methods you will find that to be true. Loading the bipod makes you more stable and allows for faster follow up shots.

gonna be trying these out this week. had to splurge just to try some others out for fun
hoping the new 3lb trigger helps out a lot!

Anyone here have experience with RL-15?
I cant seem to find any loads for 155 AMAX using it.

Would it be safe to use the equivalent of Varget?

I am obviously going to start approx 10% below max published loads for the 102.

I've been using it quite a bit in the 102. All my manuals list it including Hornady 8th edition.

S3xspert11, I'm sure the 150 TTSX will do good, please post the results from your range day when your done.

I really hope so, I had the best luck so far with 150, and some 180. not so much 165.
some guys on here have had pretty fair results with 150 barnes.
Ill post them this week. just gotta wait for a day with this crazy wind to die down.

Had exact same issue nosler custom ammo 165 accubond was a 6 inch group. It really likes federal gold match 168 and hornady 178 ELDX precision hunter.

Today was a better day!
New 3.5 pound trigger pack installed.
Huge difference on my group sizes.
Seems to like 165 the best in mine.
Different brands do make a difference as well.
Surprising to me was the 142gr Barnaul.
Cheers
Jeff
