Note the bolt through the receiver/cover. SOLID!

On the VZ , it looked like the bolt was there to hold the sight in place, I didn't know it went down to the receiver. Good idea.

Are you talking one hook like a commercial semi like a Remington or two vertically opposed?
I'm glad you are on to other projects, the work you did seems fairly competent, you should try and turn a bolt action into a semi now lol.
I wanted to make sure that the cycling of the bolt would have the extension forward of the rear of the receiver cover and therefore be able to operate the bolt without moving my head whatsoever. So far it works well.
With the extra mass welded on, do you think there will be any problems with hydrogen embrittlement?
I tried my sks w/o the piston & cz milsurp ammo. Mostly I had to tap on the charging handle with a stick. It might have been exacerbated by a buildup of lacquer from the casings adhering to the chamber walls. Go figure. The public safety types would still come for your bolt action. All the best.
I will put this one aside for the time being and search out another project. This was an interesting project and if I was asked, no I would not do another one, one being enough for now. I think this one looks pretty sharp for a converted clunker. What do you all think?

Public safety? [/ interest]There isn't enough weld matter to have any quantifiable effect on any portion of the gun so that would be a non issue. Gun operates very smoothly and ejection is perfect. The public safety comment is probably a product of too much tv or internet, you need to get out more

Looks nice with the smaller charging handle and flush cut mag, I would put some sort of upper hand guard back on if it was mine but that's just me. Nice to see the end product!
