VIDEO ADDED COMPLETED SKS BOLT ACTION by Canuck94

Still looks better like this...

x2! :)

Nothing beats the classic "fresh out of the arsenal crate" look, feel and smell. It's almost orgasmic, haha!

;)

Then there's the aspect of value... the fully original ones will never lose value and increase significantly as supplies dry out, whereas the bubba'd ones will be lucky to fetch $150 ten or twenty years from now. Hell, I bough a rare 100 year old Mauser in excellent condition a couple years back for $100, because some "tinkerer" decided to sporterize the f**k out of her long ago. If the gun had been intact, it would easily be worth around $800-1000.

Repost this in 50 years when you have to convert them to #### and click dewats because of liberal paranoia..........

Scope base installed complete with red dot and ready for field testing this weekend. If all is good with the alignments, off for final grindings/fittings and polishing'

Whenever you install a scope or red dot, whether factory or home built, always check the alignment prior to going the next step. The best way to do this is to fire at different ranges to make sure that the point of aim and impact do not change left to right because if it does then you have a skewed mounting and you have to fix this before going the next step.

I fired the SKS at 40 yards and then at 100 to check mine out because that's the two distances that the point of impact is closest to being the same. The 40 is only slightly lower than at 100 so it makes a good comparison. Now that I'm satisfied all the mechanical concerns are satisfied, time to do my final grind and polish and I will post the results of the final product in a week or so as I have a lot of elbow grease ahead of me.

I will put this one aside for the time being and search out another project. This was an interesting project and if I was asked, no I would not do another one, one being enough for now. I think this one looks pretty sharp for a converted clunker. What do you all think?

I think it looks like a cobbled together abortion of wood and steel and think it serves little purpose then a reason to waste time and a sks. However it is your gun and I don't really care what people do with their property so of the gun serves a purpose for you even just as a way to waste some time and get away from the wife for a few hours to tinker then all the power to you.
Your asked for opinions...

Looks good.
I may have missed it, but have you bedded the barrelled action into the stock? First brand new Chinese SKS that came through the shop, the barrelled action would shift longitudinally in the stock. Bedded it using a procedure not unlike that used with M-1/M-14 rifles. Noticeably shrank the groups.

That's not an opinion, that's a non-constructive rant because someone must have pissed in your cornflakes.

Looks great. I just think that that deleting the front sight and going to a flush magazine would be the ultimate step.
Artistically, taking some of the angularity out of the charging handle and giving it a more organic look more in keeping with the rest of the SKS would be just the cat's whisker.
(Like think "steam punk")

The flush mag may happen yet but the iron sights are functional as a backup in case of optic failures. I agree with the handle looking a little off and I have tried a couple of other options but in the end, the function of this one worked the best even if some other options looked better. A bit like the K-31

+1 Looks good, may as well fill the bayo slot, add a sling mount and sling.

Yeah I know that actually doing stuff actually takes hard work.
But, if you're really motivated, reworking those finger arms on the cocking lever into like trigger shaped hooks would look just so freaking awesome.

I'm glad you are on to other projects, the work you did seems fairly competent, you should try and turn a bolt action into a semi now lol.

Dust cover peep is a no no.. will never hold zero well... otherwise... don't understand why to make a bolt but looks interesting at least the OP is not sitting on his ass but creates things so A+ for being a creator and changing world around him

I put a similar peep on mine. Used part of a Lee Enfield "L" sight. It hold zero. Note the bolt through the receiver/cover. SOLID!
