VIDEO ADDED COMPLETED SKS BOLT ACTION by Canuck94

Just bought a Pietta revolver off them and it was the smoothest, fastest and easiest restricted purchase I have probably ever made in many years. Also got real time updates through e-mail every step of the way. From purchase to delivery at my door in about 8 calendar days. I have never had a single problem with Marstar over almost a decade of purchasing/dealing with them.

Anyhow, Canuck94, cool project. Show the final results and lets see a range report. Pretty cool idea all around.
Please update the post once you get further down the river. Also as an aside; keep the mag at 5 rounds unless officially directed in writing on RCMP memo paper that it's kosher. My interp of the regs is that the magazine is designed for a semi auto, you can't unpin it no matter how many modifications you make to the rifle. The magazine is what it is and must be pinned to 5 rounds.

Interested in seeing accuracy report after all this work!

Thanks and I'm presently waiting for an official reply from their technical people on my interpretation of the magazine issue.

It's just that the HiViz fiber optic sight for the AK is too wide to screw through the existing hole in the top of the SKS sight so by simply cutting the top off makes it simple to screw in the AK sight with no further mods.

There is a drop in.... I forget who makes it though.

I use the remaining two pieces of the rail to form the sides of a new ghost sight. You could simply drill out the treads on a nut and weld or solder into place making sure you stay low on the receiver cover and you will find that setting is very close to dead on at 100 yds. You adjust elevation and left right on the front sight post.

After you grind down the imperfections on the bottom of your top part of the rail, you can weld or solder it to the remaining part of your rear sight or drill it out and use as a rail on some other project. I am going to trim it down for this project and weld it to the mag bracket aka the rear sight or what's left of it.....

Could you put all pics and updates to the first post? Exciting project and we wanna see the progress wo going through all 10 pages

I would like to but I'm not able to post without a lot of back and forth between two programs and when I try to get too fancy, I lose past work. Please bear with me and if I'm lucky I will repost once the project is completed.

The parts have been welded and the bolt reinstalled. Everything works as expected but I do have to polish off a small rub spot. The prototype is ready to field test in the next few days. I will create a better peep sight and after a little testing, a 1/8 inch hole seems just about right for my eyes.

I wanted to make sure that the cycling of the bolt would have the extension forward of the rear of the receiver cover and therefore be able to operate the bolt without moving my head whatsoever. So far it works well.

You don't think you could have done that with the factory carrier?
To me, it looks too far back in the rear position to be comfortable, as my cheek/nose are usually very close to the dust cover due to the short lop.

No the carrier bolt knob is too far forward to be comfortable for repeated shots and the knob itself is too small to grip. I also added a 1" pad to lengthen the LOP. This is strictly a matter of personal choice with regards to the extension.

What if you just drilled a hole in the top. Would you retain enough materiel to maintain the loop?

Prior to doing all the finishing work I took it to the back range and cycled a few rounds to make absolutely certain that all was good before moving from prototype to finished product. Peep sight is being welded on today and more test firings during to week to verify alignment and then it's the scope rail's turn to be mig welded to the receiver and the mag band. Then final trip to the range and finally into the polishing can of elbow grease.

The peep sight is welded in place and I used a 1/8" drill bit to make the hole suitable for my eyes and still give quick access. The Scope base has been shortened to allow just enough meat for the scope base that I have on a red dot. This will allow for the red dot to be mounted just in front of the action and at it's lowest point possible.
