VIDEO ADDED COMPLETED SKS BOLT ACTION by Canuck94

Note the bolt through the receiver/cover. SOLID!

On the VZ , it looked like the bolt was there to hold the sight in place, I didn't know it went down to the receiver. Good idea.

One suggestion was to cut the mag flush so that's what we do.......

First you scribe the mag sleeve at the catch and then you remove the mag assemble, scribe from the mark you made at the catch end to the hinge.

Then you cut the mag cover from the hinge to the catch and you leave enough at the catch to heat form an new latch.

Normally the finished product requires a small block under the follower because you still can load 6 in a flush mag.

5 shot stripper clips can be made from standard 10 shot strips, First you load a stripper clip with 5 as a guide and add a quarter inch so you have enough meat to make a tab with. Use a propane torch to heat the tab before you try to bend it 90 degrees and remember to quench it to keep the temper.

Did a little upgrade as suggested by a few posters.

Cut the mag flush, added a sling swivel at the front end, made the charging handle a little smaller, (still looking at making a custom trigger shaped tabs but that takes a little more time)

I wanted to make sure that the cycling of the bolt would have the extension forward of the rear of the receiver cover and therefore be able to operate the bolt without moving my head whatsoever. So far it works well.

With the extra mass welded on, do you think there will be any problems with hydrogen embrittlement?

I tried my sks w/o the piston & cz milsurp ammo. Mostly I had to tap on the charging handle with a stick. It might have been exacerbated by a buildup of lacquer from the casings adhering to the chamber walls. Go figure. The public safety types would still come for your bolt action. All the best.

There isn't enough weld matter to have any quantifiable effect on any portion of the gun so that would be a non issue. Gun operates very smoothly and ejection is perfect. The public safety comment is probably a product of too much tv or internet, you need to get out more
:)

I will put this one aside for the time being and search out another project. This was an interesting project and if I was asked, no I would not do another one, one being enough for now. I think this one looks pretty sharp for a converted clunker. What do you all think?

I like it keep up the good work.

Nice project! That's a sweet setup. Holly hell do people on this forum take the fun out of life sometimes. It's like a that one uber negative arsehole gun counter guy multiplied and came on this forum to post on this specific thread. Awesome looking boomstick.

What's the rifle I'm thinking of... k-31? That's what it reminds me of... I think they converted those to 30-30. OMG you've made a k-31.
Good job... not for everyone but interesting nonetheless.

I think it looks great! And would be interesting to shoot.
I personally would've mounted the scope further back tho, more over the bolt. Then add either a detachable mag, or modded the steel factory one to be detachable.
