Yes - it was approved as a trial division for IPSC in 2018. Canadian sections will start discussing it with their memberships in the next couple of weeks.

So if Sections are discussing it, does that mean Sections themselves have the discretion to opt in/out, and with what ruleset?

Personally, I think that sport is evolving with too many divisions. Lol, you have a local match with 25 shooters, each one will have their own division at the rate it is going.

Everyone's a winner. What difference does it make. Local matches are not playing for anything more than five minutes of local fame. Sanctioned Matches cause the fame to last for an additional five minutes. :>) Just allows more folks to play with their favourite boom stick.

I do agree though SSP and ESP could well be combined. All the mods you can do for ESP Division over SSP don't seem to translate into lower scores . The striker fired guns have been in the hands of the winners of ESP over the 1911 9MM guns and often win CDP over the 1911 45acps. I shoot my CCP gun as well as I do my ESP gun so the shorter barrel doesn't seem to mean much.

Just a game with different divisions to keep conversations going I guess. Not worth getting a twist over.

Sweet. Looks a lot like the PPQ M2 Competition. One thing this gun and the PPQ lack is the co-witness feature. I mounted a RMR on my CZ New Edition using the rear dovetail. I have not shot it a lot but did find myself chasing the damn dot, something I don't do when I use my CX4 Storm. I think the co-witness sight might eliminate some of that. More likely I just need more practice with the gun. I am on the fence for a M&P 4.25" CORE vs the PPQ. The latter has a way better cool factor. :>)

The number of divisions is a huge concern that is noted by many. Hence the reason this is a trial - if it doesn't get the participation; it doesn't happen - or maybe if it kills another division, that other divison will go. There's a damn good chance that a division will not make it through 2020. The only question is - which one? This one? Revolver?

A local match doesn't have to recognize every division. If there's only one or two guys in a division; they don't get awards - this isn't kid's soccer.

PO has some merit - not only are quite a few manufacturer's building guns that have the Optic in them; but it also solves a decades-old issue where some people's eyes just don't work with Iron sights and they're not able or willing to make the huge investment in Open division.

If anything, this promises to be an interesting ride.

I find its all grip angle. I have gone .96s from holster to first shot on alpha (double action on my shadow) with the dot with like 6 weeks of practice (was drawing around ~1.10 prior with irons).

Nice draw speed.

I found when shooting your Shadow with the optic, it had a very unfamiliar grip angle, that would definitely take some getting used to. Not sure which gun I would go with, but PO is likely the direction I will follow in time. I fit FV's thoughts. I'm not really interested in Open, and my eyes suck right now, and definitely won't be getting better. I will stick with irons for 2018, but 2019 may see a change.

Of the matches I shoot...prod, standard, open and classic seem to be well represented. If there is too many divisions, revolver has been running on fumes for as long as I've been shooting IPSC

I expect open division will take a hit with the new PO division, maybe even prod as well....but I expect there will still be large followings in both those existing divisions. PO to me addresses a large group of people, who want to shoot minor, stay competitive, but have eyesight problems. Not everyone wants to shoot open and now there is an option.

I think the division will be quite successful.

I have been to many matches with twice as many revo shooters as open, but I live in a strange area. Open Lite will take people from Open and Production.

I only see PO drawing from Production.
An Open shooter has nothing equipment wise to enter the new division.
A Production shooter has everything except an optic and mount so an easy transition, equipment wise.
To jump from Production to Open today is a massive cost, even Standard is getting stupid expensive so I don’t see many shooters making that jump and how many guys have 5 to 10 grand just floating about to swap divisions anyway? My guess is not many.
Given my eyesight (or lack of it nowadays) I like the idea of this.
