Cabela's can go pound sand

The Calgary store has always been a great place, the staff is not to pushy or condescending like some gun only stores and the prices competitive, like every where you need to know your prices.

Most of the big chain stores have video game gun experts behind the counters.Posers with the know it all attitude............they have lost many sales as a result as they were too stupid and busy worshiping themselves like a peacock.Harold

There are hundreds of smaller shops that are dedicated to the long term prosperity of the sport. Big box stores have different agendas. Help the little guy and you’ll keep the big dumpsters honest for a once in a while ammo purchase.

Employee attitude at big box store is usually crap. They have a low paying retail job with basically no benefits and you are suppose to be polite to the general pubic. I don't get bent out of shape about because I would be grumpy too. When I go to cabelas, walmart, or safeway I don't expect good service from a happy employees. I get in and out as fast as possible with minimal interaction because I know there job is miserable and most don't really want to be there. If they are happy, want to talk or give good service I will happily reciprocate. They also have no personal buy in. If you don't buy stuff they are not out anything. A locally owned place will care if you buy stuff

As far as price I always cabelas to be high. Even wholesale sports was high in my opinion. P&D Enterprises will always have the best prices some how.

Same. every employee encountered at Calgary Cabelas has been nice to me. even bass bro at cross irons.

As to the OP's original question. i think if some behind the counter is rude and condescending, that's because they are like that off the clock too and it's not really the stores fault unless they have a dbag boss, wouldn't excuse the need to take it out on people still. But to say that someone is going to turn on the crappy attitude mode because another store closed is probably not the case. The price hikes maybe. less competition. the only poor service i got was from WSS.

Certainly doesn't apply to Saskatoon Cabela's where staff are courteous and helpful.
Cabela's always has a sale eventually, when prices become more attractive.
Some of us remember the bad old days of no stock, and take it or leave it attitudes of local stores.

...best salesman i ever met was in regina wholesale sports...young guy...had a new-to-him mint, vintage Garand on the counter in a gunsmiths rig and was stripping it/working on it...stopping immediately when customers came up and returning to his work when done...man if that didn't pull me into the buying mode!!!

I agree, I've always had a great experience at Cabelas in Calgary b

Cabelas has always been great with me... their Cabelas brand products are usually very good quality... WAY better than Bass Pro/Redhead stuff.

Always try to hit the big stores when in the big smoke, so much neat stuff to look at. Cabelas started out as a catalogue store with great prices depending on exchange etc. They went to retail outlets and their prices went up. The staff are OK but you get blank looks when asking specific questions. Went into Basspro last trip to Calgary and once again lots of stock, the faces were smiling but knowledge was not there. Taxidermy was awesome. Ended up in Italian Sporting goods (think I got the name right) in Vancouver. Extremely knowledgable staff. Guy lined me up with the reloading stuff I was looking for spent time explaining everything to the newbie (me), gave me his card and welcomed my business. It was a Saturday and that place was packed. Reliable Guns was my first stop in Van and they could not help me but the guy sent me to Italian Sporting place. My basic instinct is to patronize the stores like Italian Sporting Goods and Reliable. They know their stuff.

I find I’m finding the BP RedHead brand similar to the WallyWorld Joe Fresh brand...
Mass produced ok for awhile but eventually looses its lustre.
Not that I buy copious amounts of joe fresh or red head brand.
In fact I have only ever spent under a Brown Canadian bill in BP.Most of my purchases still come from the small gun store retailers.
That’s just me though.
That and here in the YVR area we have copious places to shop for firearms related stuff and some are even sponsors of this great web site.
