Cabela's can go pound sand

I find cabelas expensive, unless you buy sale stuff. They don't seem to have much of the stuff I'm looking for either. I found myself shopping at wholesale sports quite a bit more than cabelas.

There are hundreds of smaller shops that are dedicated to the long term prosperity of the sport. Big box stores have different agendas. Help the little guy and you’ll keep the big dumpsters honest for a once in a while ammo purchase.

Agreed!

Cabela's Ottawa is better than average for retail folks imo... Anyone looking for 4 star service I'm a box store isn't being realistic. I like Cabela's sales and branded items actually... Still buy more from the cgn sponsors though and glad with that.

Cabelas has way better service that Wholesale sports here in Winnipeg. The normal sale prices on things in the Cabelas flyers are way cheaper than the liquidation prices at wholesale and they have selection.

Ive been to Cabelas in 17 states and 3 provinces. Edmonton North had crappy service one of two visits, Barrie was consistently crappy so I don't stop in anymore when driving by. You can get screwed on some things if you don't know your prices, but their sales are usually quite good. Their branded stuff is also usually quite good.

Bass Pro staff and redhead gear.... don't even get me started.

Have shopped at Cabela's in Calgary for several years and bought several rifles and even sold a couple. The staff has always been polite and helpful. Wish all retail staff at other stores were as good.

I am in Calgary and have always had great service at Cabela's. Bass pro I have had great service but usually most of the staff behind the gun counter don't seem top shelf but still friendly. I would go maybe 1 to2 times a year to whole sale as they usually had stuff I couldn't get at the others (much better reloading selection) but dealing with the staff (maybe not all but many) always left me asking why do I come here.

I find the staff friendly but man, is their selection of products complete mainstream garbage. There is absolutely nothing interesting there. Generic crap. Its a store for the stereotypical "sportsman" and nothing more.

has anyone else noticed

the poor employee attitude and price hikes at Cabela's since wholesale sports closed its doors
Friday whine fest? Price hikes at Cabela's? Looks like you were not paying attention to Wholesale Sports. Prices went up at Wholesale then they slapped on the "liquidation sale" price tag. In many cases Cabela's regular price was less than Wholesales Sports liquidation sale price. Too funny.

Nope, bought tonnes at the Wpg store today and the past two weeks. Lots of stock, lots of nice staff, lots of sales and deals. Live this time of year because ice fishing stuff is just out and fully stocked. Some summer & camping clear out items and new winter outerwear too. Can't wait till the next flyer...

I didn’t mind Cabelas until I tried to order powder from them on Boxing Day. They wanted to charge me 280$ for shipping with a Hazmat shipper... I don’t give that degree of retardation my business anymore.

Cabelas in Saskatoon has always been very good to us.
There are a few older gentlemen at the rifle counter who have answered countless questions for me and been extremely helpful.
Three years ago being a newer rifle owner I found the smaller shops blowing me off nonstop as I didn't seem at that time to be at their level.

When stoon cabelas first opened they had the dumbest people working the gun counter but they actually got some decent guys (and a decent looking girl) behind the counter now that actually know what their talking about.

I actually bought a S&W 617 10 shot @ Cabela's Barrie yesterday. I was going to ask for a price match but surprisingly, they had the lowest price. I also had $150 gift card so I used that too. Salesperson was good but it was quite busy for a Friday morning so had to wait a bit to be served and complete the transaction. Not really a big deal. Overall not a bad experience.

When I go to big box stores, I do all my research and know what I want so I just go in and out.

I have been to a particular mom and pop gun shop and the attitude there is that they are all knowing and they are doing you a favour. Plus, their prices are sometimes way high. I am not a firearm expert nor do I want to be. I just want to get my jollies putting holes in paper. Not butthurt, but they'll never see my money again.

I haven't had any significant problems with employees at the Regina store but of course some are more knowledgeable than others. I've never been treated rudely so for a box store its ok.

1. No.

2. Wholesale Sports hasn't closed its doors yet.

3. I haven't noticed price hikes.

4. There is one employee at the local Cabela's I think no good but I have never dealt with him there. I formed that opinion of him when he worked at Wholesale Sports, was confirmed in it when I dealt with him at North Pro and his former employer at one of those two businesses (I won't narrow it down as they are entitled to keep their opinions off the net if they wish) told me I am right about him.

I haven't had problems until the other day
I went in there
they advertise they will price match
so I had found a shop that will sell my bigfoot B2 decoys pack of 6 regular price $185.99
they simply would not even consider it
and the guy I dealt with was incredibly ignorant and snotty better then thow attitude
so the I just said fine you just lost a sale for 7 dozen decoys which was all my budget would allow
so next I went looking for a certain dog blind they didn't have one in stock
so I went to customer service
the person I spoke to there couldn't speak English hardly
and when I said hello had to input that into a computer to see what type of reply he should give me well DUHHHHHHH
then like they say order it to the store no shipping charges
well that's what I wanted to do
prepay for it have it delivered to the store I would pick it up
nope they wanted to ship it to my home at an added extra super high shipping cost
I said no I would pick it up
after 45 minutes arguing with the nimrods I got pissed off and told them to go pound sand
and walked out frustrated
so I went over to the other store ordered 10 dozen bigfoot B2 feeders at $185.99 per pack of 6 a savings of $84 per pack of 6 so I ordered 3 more dozen to fit the budget I was ready to spend at Cabela's
twas better off going elsewhere , (I didn't need the Cabela's snotty better then thow attitude anyways)
and the other store went out of their way to order me the dog blind I wanted at Cabela's
that Cabela's wouldn't bring to their store for me , for $43 cheaper then Cabela's
never again will I darken Cabella's Regina store doorways
I think I just happened to pick a day they had all of their moron idiot employees on all at the same time
