If you were shooting at an outdoor range and it was cool out you could have developed moisture from temperature change then stored it. This could have caused the issue whether you were using non corrosive ammo or not.
The reason it took so long to clean is that oil does not dissolve salt. All the barrel needed was some water on a patch. I pour some boiling water down the barrel and then clean normally. Easy and fast and 100% effective on salt.
I have seen much worse, that will clean up ok and the rifle will be fine, make sure you take apart the bolt and remove the firing pin to clean, the gas piston just needs to soak in oil or eds red or balistol overnight and you can tap it out!
I was sold Czech 1200 round ammo as non corrosive about 4 years ago by a supposed reputable dealer here ( not Canam ) my bad I was fairly new with x39 so I got soaked and extra $150 for Czech corrosive, still have it and the price has now come up to match what I paid! If you don't want your sks, I will buy it! Cheers Bob.
I also have 3 or 4 crates of that 12rd czech stuff and again, never any issues shooting it through the Vz... do we know for certain it's corrosive?
As for the Norinco, I've put nearly a crate of it through my AR since March and I've cleaned it once or twice (maybe 3x) this summer. Being in sub-saharan Alberta probably helps but I've not had any rust issues with this stuff. I pay the extra because I'm lazy so the possibility of bad batches makes me sad.
I do not trust any CommBloc or Chinese stamped surplus or non- surplus ammo, even if they say non-corrosive right on the box.
If it’s not brass cased and made in the USA, it’s corrosive as far as I’m concerned! And I scrub my guns accordingly.

LOL! You can dump anything you want down your barrel. Just about anything with water in it will work. However, nothing works better than boiling hot water. Nothing is cheaper than boiling hot water. Here endeth the lesson.
must be a slow day.........Boiling water or Balistol. It is like Deja Vu all over again. Now I know for sure 05RAV works for Balistol.![]()
That's why I'm so rich that I can afford to flush my guns with Ballistol!![]()
SKS's and rust go hand in hand, must be something in the metallurgy, just a fact of life
Testify brother, why dump expensive cleaner down the pipe when steaming hot water works better, then just clean as usual!LOL! You can dump anything you want down your barrel. Just about anything with water in it will work. However, nothing works better than boiling hot water. Nothing is cheaper than boiling hot water.

No rust on any of mine, ever, maybe mold in your house or something! Perhaps use hotter water when flushing the parts!SKS's and rust go hand in hand, must be something in the metallurgy, just a fact of life

I always run water down the bores. The water neutralizes the corosive salts and then clean using solvents. Then I oil it back up put it in the safe and all good. Just trying to pin down the reason why it rusted so much this time around
I need a loan, how about it big guy?![]()
Well I checked it last night and no rust yet. I will check again later. I'm kinda confused at this point. I don't know if IM.S.L, How did your test turn out?
