Maccabee Defense SLR information and updates

As long as it's longer than 18.6 inches. Yes.

This is pedantic, but then so is the law. The limit is not 18.6", it is 470mm (18.504"). Anything less than that on a semi-auto centerfire firearm (shotgun or rifle) results in a restricted firearm.

I think anyone expecting a limited production, single market gun from a small manufacturer to be an inexpensive lookalike of the most mass-produced rifle in the western world should probably reduce their exposure to solvent-based adhesives.

Sounds correct to me, people need to realize the circumstances and business environment this is being produced in. Cheap, AR and non-restricted don't go together in the same sentence in Kanada.

Interested in this. Not to familiar with AR rifles, mainly becuase they are restricted . I see that they have a stripped upper receiver for sale. Can i buy a cheap AR and swap everything over and have a non restricted style AR? thanks for input

Of course, I agree with you. Thing is, anyone who shoots at a range is better off with the real thing.

I’m cool with the price but what in the name of god would possess you to intentionally design a rifle with a take down bolt???? I have to see that before i believe it. I really want to give this a chance but wtf

Need to buy a stripped lower too.

I get that, but I wish I knew that before getting my hopes up about this. That’s completely unheard of for good reason on a modern designed rifle.

Yup. Agreed. A simlpe bolt is primitive outdated technology. I would have liked to see better.

That being said, I hate to be the guy to say this but.... any time something is trying to be something, without actually being that something that it is trying to be.... it's not going to be that something.

Guaranteed this will have its own share of quirks just like the "other" NR ar type rifle does. I'm not saying quirks are a bad thing. I'm just saying to expect some.

Neither of our NR ar-15 alternatives (ATRS & MacDef.) are ar's no matter how bad we want them to be. Because of this expect some quirks.

Maccabee has stated these take ALL ar parts, (their own words) yet it has already came to light that it won't take 1 piece drop in trigger packs. I guess 1 piece trigger packs weren't included in their definition of ALL?

This ain't a big deal to me but goes to show you that you should expect some quirks. There may be more.

No point in anyone complaining if a few things are different. As long as it does the job. Reliably.

Ah okay, thanks. I've ordered a number of things there over the years. I know the small parts were changed from 100 to 500, but I thought this excluded barrels, bolts and slides.
anything under 100 good to go itar or not

100 to 499usd if itar they send you a form to fill and send back, no big deal, takes 19 seconds.

anything above 500usd and itar = no go

Are drop-in trigger packs considered to be mil-spec?

You're not wrong, though as far as I can tell the community in general typically says 18.6" due to the VAST MAJORITY of barrel lengths being discussed in Imperial as opposed to Metric. Personally, I believe it stems from the fact that most people talking about this stuff are likely from the USA where Imperial is the standard.

And since 18.5039" is larger than 18.5", and barrels are almost always only refined down to a tenth of an inch, most Canadian legal barrels end up being 18.6". Especially if order from the USA.

By all means though, if anyone wants to custom order a 470mm 18.5039" barrel. Go for it, you'll be Non-Restricted still.

Barrels aren’t included in the ITAR exemption, extra paperwork and licensing involved (250usd).

Not true. Just use a 3rd party importer such as A_____ Armoury or Prophet River and do a parts import. My last barrel from Brownells cost me less than $75 CAD to bring in through A_____ Armoury and that included shipping to my door. You just have to tell Brownells to ship to the 3rd Party Importer's U.S. based office, so that the $250 USD Export Permit does not apply.
