So in the U.S. vortex optics offers a 40% discount to military and law enforcement discount. Of course here they do not. So why do companies offer these things elsewhere but very often do not in Canada? I have run into this with a few companies. I looked into the colt leo discount which in the U.S. is very nice and here it is 10% The discounts offered here very often do not even cover taxes or shipping. Anyway just thought we should get the same offer and those companies who offer the discounts should offer the same terms as they do state side.

It is what it is, No point of trying to make sense of it. Remember in the US Mil/Leo dont make as much as up here. They dont have the same gold plated pension either.

So they get better discount.

Retailers are free to do what they please however I don't understand why they offer the discount in the first place. Flame suit on so have at her. I will add there are lots of folks, including public servants who serve the public and whose jobs are dangerous/difficult/unpleasant etc. No one has been forced to do any of them.

Maybe its an "America first" situation, American company supporting American troops and cops..... Doesn't mean they have to extend the same gratitude to other countries.

The sense of entitlement is strong in this thread.

Some of us had the balls to sign the dotted line. And if compagnies want to offer Mil/Leo discount they have every right to do so. We dont have a say on where we go and what we do.

I started it knowing full well this will go sideways. No one is knocking those of you (us) that have the balls to sign up for difficult jobs. I was never military BTW but I have seen some damn nasty stuff on the job and yes, I have been offered discounts too.
I guess what really irks me is the few who have this sense of entitlement. Been witness to too many co-workers and collegues making demands of retailers simply because of who/where they work.

Its crazy the amount of support US troops get. Everytime I go on Ex in the US Im blown away by it.

Canadians as a people behave "entitled" in many ways. That's why the self righteous smugness when talking about Americans is so grating to those looking in from another culture.

+1. Not everyone is willing to sign the dotted line for "unlimited liability".

I've been to NYC numerous times for fleet week and we had to wear uniforms. Countless people came up to us and thanked us for our service. At first I pointed out that we were Canadians and it did not matter to the people thanking us. The US thinks more of their military personnel than Canadians.

The Mil/LEO demographic of shooters (current or ex members) probably accounts for a huge part of their customer base. Makes me wonder what a vortex is actually worth if they can afford to give that large of a discount to a huge base. I have a strikefire II. It was quite underwhelming

I did 25 years in the reserves and got a retired Canadian Military ID card. I bought a place in Florida and LOWE's in Florida gives me a military discount with my Canadian Military ID card. I also have been able to use it for discounts at the local gun shows.

Exactly..^^^^ Im glad that CND retailers treat everyone the same.

.

If you signed the dotted line in hopes of receiving recognition, I think it's safe to say you did it for the wrong reasons.

I think he meant it in more of a If you want to complain law enforcement or military get a discount feel free to join up so you can get it too, way.

Forget the LEO/MIL discounts, I didn't put the uniform on to save a few bucks when I buy a pair of boots and people demanding them should take that outside but that's just me....
We just don't see any actual deals up here period as consumers in general.
I keep seeing adds on the main forum for "BIG FACKIN' SMOKING BOXING DAY CLEARANCE BLOWOUT!!!!!"
Then you go the website and it's a Norinco 1911A1 on sale for $349.99 marked down from $360........

We don't see any deals up here really. Our market is pathetic and it's not just for guns, it's for everything. No stock, crazy inflated prices, the "blowout boxing day sales (!!!)" are usually 3% to 5% off max

I can say for sure the profit margins some of these companies make off us must be staggering when you look at what they would be paying for US hardware at dealer rates then flipping it to us.
Even taking the overhead into account of shipping, exchange etc. Spare parts alone are usually 300% markup as a minimum up here. Last time I was looking for an SRT for my Sig the US price was $35 and some sites up here had them for $135.
Just another day in the backwater economy of Canada lol

Because they are American companies and show their patriotism by giving si####s to the defenders of their country not ours.
