CQBR / Mk18 Mod1 Clone thread - Show us your clones!

So the grenade lug you machined off was the nub by the mag well on the bottom of the IUR right? Funny thing, that nub was the only thing I did not like about the IUR and I did not realize what it was for. Also how did you swap the barrel? Did you build a tool to get to the barrel nut or did you have a gunsmith do it? I’ve never been a fan of painting my firearms up but that CSOF rifle just looks killer! I can’t wait to see yours finished.

The upper was built using the 11.6 barrel off of my mrr and putting it in an sas 10.5" upper. Milled off the grenade lug, built the correct ops Inc suppressor collar and assembled it all. The collar fits right on the 11.6" mrr barrel. No messing with it. Luckily I had a friend with the correct suppressor collar so I could make drawings to replicate it.
Just waiting on my black exps to put on there, tape everything off and giving it a fresh new look. Hopefully in a week or so. Will post pics when finished.
Almost forgot to give a shout out to Brad at Nordic. Always my go to for CC/Diemaco parts and always fantastic service. 99% of this setup came from his shop.
Thanks for the comments.

What was your reasoning behind using the 11.6" barrel vs. the original 10.5? As I understand it, the Ops collar should fit on the 10.5 just as well.

The reason behind it is there would be a interference fit between the handguard and ops inc suppressor with a 10.5” barrel if the collar did fit. I don’t think the collar will fit to be honest, plus the collar has to be outside the handguard for the suppressor to clear hence the longer barrel and threaded vortex.

Your exactly right repper. The great guys at RDSC have a barrel wrench and did the swapping for me.
The diemaco 10" and cc sas 10.5" barrels both are too short to use the collar in the iur rail. They also don't have the correct profile to accept the collar where the 11.6" does. When I first saw the pics of this setup I was sad as I thought the barrel was a 12.5" and had no idea how I was going to get my hands on such a cc barrel. It is all an illusion luckily and it is an 11.6" cc barrel.

so where the can a guy buy CQD sling mounts and KAC flash suppressor? Looking for the original items and not airsoft junk. Any help would be appreciated. Thx.

I sold all me extra CQD sling mounts, but I have a KAC FH. I painted it, but I just finished bead blasting it and it's going in the park tank.

Does the CANSOFCOM rifle use a 11.6" barrel with a collar, or a 10.5" with a Collar Adapter Extender from Allen Engineering?

SO quick question here. Early mk18 colt barrels were cut down to the 10.3 inch length. In doing this would you need to adjust the gas hole as well?

Some 10" barrels have larger gas ports (Daniel Defence) and some don't. I have think eally depends on what ammunition is being used.

The Colt carbine, 14.5 is a .063. That's the spec. They opened it up to .070 for the 10.3 barrel after they cut it down. It cycles 5.56 (M855, MK262) fine with a H2 buffer.
Civilian MK18 barrels (DD) have a .080 gas port to help cycle .223 weaker ammo.

Ops Inc is defunct, Allen Engineering took back the IP (basically) and is now producing all the same cans and collars.

CANSOF guns are 11.6" with a collar, not a collar extender.

Bradley

Thanks for the info. Looks like derrob7 went through a colossal amount of work to get clone accuracy, hats off to him, wow.

Has anyone started a CANSOFCOM clone thread?

Guess not many folks here are willing to walk down that dark path, lol!
