** Your NEA102 build **

I just installed an ELF trigger and a Magpul UBR. Both required minor modifications.

-The ELF trigger required minor stoning to work with the stock safety.

-The unique buffer tube that comes with the UBR did not retain the buffer tube plunger and spring. I removed some metal from the forward edge of the bugger tube surface that seats against the receiver until the plunger was retained.

I gave it a dry run in the shop, but no live fire yet. So far so good.
 
interested to hear how the criterion shoots. just ordered the 20 inch hybrid chrome barrel with seekins adjustable gas block. dont have time to mess around with the stock barrel of its not going to measure up.

IE: Replacement pins won't fit the BCL BCG.

Also of note, the BCL firing pin has a spring, the Brownells does not. You cannot (that I have tried and succeeded at) get an aftermarket DPMS firing pin to function in the BCL BCG.

Where I stand now is Brownells bolt in a BCL BCG with Criterion bbl.

This is very interesting and strange. Is this a gen 1 or gen 2 102?
 
I'm pretty sure driller 212 found that the BCL takes ar-10 barrels. Im pretty sure my ballistic advantage barrel is an ar-10 barrel and extension.

what is the Brownells Bolt Carrier hanging up on? the gas tube? are the gas keys the same height?
 
Hey bkallday, let me know how that buffer spring is working. My BCL bolt, after firing, would skip over a round and I'd have an empty chamber. I think it's because the buffer spring is too hot. To test this, I left the bcg locked back for a couple of days to compress the spring a bit. I figure it's the stock spring as I did switch the barrel, new barrel has a rifle length gas system instead of the stock carbine spring. So, I am guessing that with my setup, I am over sprung. So... I'd love to hear your feedback when you throw in that jp spring system. Maybe I should have gotten an adjustable gas block? And pumped more gas in, or just go buy a softer spring.

Yeah I'm not sure how well the JP carbine spring will work because I think the 102 comes with an Armalite carbine length buffer tube so we will see. I'm thinking with the adjustable gas block I will be able to tune it enough to work. I'll report back when I have my BCL102 in hand.
 
Where did you get the JP silent spring system from? I've found it online for $300. I am mulling it over, I may just cut coils until it works with my loads...

The BCL102 is the most expensive stripped upper and lower system out there... But I guess it's cheaper than the alternatives, that is, if I want it to shoot well.
 
Is anyone having an Issue with not being able to use a QD sling swivel on their handguard?

My friend is trying to use the QD point on the handguard, but the QD Sling swivel bottoms out on what I believe is the Barrel extension? right where it and the barrel itself interact. The swivel touches this before the bearings on the QD swivel can engage and secure to the handguard.
When he removes the handguard the QD swivel works just fine but when its on it definitely bottoms out and can't fully insert.

This rifle is from the 2nd batch and he got it just the other week, I've noticed on some rifles the handguard starts with a m-lok slot and then the QD point then continues with M-lok, I assume the reason is to keep this very problem from happening, if the QD point is just an inch more forward it wouldn't hit anything under the handguard. But this handguard starts off with a QD point that's further back than the other style of handguard.

seems like bad engineering if something like that was missed, its basically just a decorative hole as its stands now.

Looks like your friend got a gen1 handguard on a gen2 rifle. You're right the newest ones have the QD further forward to avoid this known problem with the original ones. I would consider this a warranty issue.

This smacks of NEA of old, where they would have QC issues as suspect/known problem parts from a previous batch ended up in the newest version. It was sort of their motto for a while there. Sh1t happens but that type of stuff is a piss off. I would definitely be contacting the vender and going from there.
