BCL 102 stripped receiver set thread

Well I'm coming up on two weeks with no response from NEA/BCL...

This is getting frustrating, ridiculous and downright unprofessional for a self-proclaimed "aerodefence corporation".

As a general rule, if I have to deal with a company for warranties or anything else, I give them 2 weeks, if absolutely no contact, I start a BBB complaint, along with a call to my CC company for a full refund for any product. NEA/BCL will not be an exception to this rule.

Of note, this has nothing to do with Ryan or SFRC.

Just an idea to throw into the pot. Once we get a clear list put together of what fits in what, we could see about making this a sticky in the black rifle page. I'm sure people in the future will keep coming back and asking the same question so having an easy place for info might do some good. again just an idea

theres a sticky in the MBR forum

The Gen 1 are forged receivers. Thats why I wanted one. Il be taking care of the cosmetic stuff and will be getting my set anodized :)

Gen 1 are the only ones that take aftermarket parts without modification.
Gen 1 receiver sets are the cats meow for guys that dont want all the ambi junk
Gen 1 receivers look the best IMHO

So I got what I wanted, Ryan texted me a bunch of close up pictures before I committed to buy. So I know the flaws and was OK with them.

I don’t recall SFRC saying they were forged. I know it was claimed in the FAQ but thought Ryan set the record straight. No way would they pay for a die and then stop using it after a single run.

Besides, forgings are too consistent. They must have a randomizer built into the CNC program.

so many 102 threads around these days. I thought I read somewhere that the Gen1's were forged. I guess I was wrong.

But im still happy that I got my hands on one regardless.

Says it should be here Friday. Will be a fun weekend of disassembly, Building and testing :)

Give us a call if you don’t hear from them by tomorrow at noon. Something isn’t working right with the online warranty form I think...I just texted the warranty person with your reference number. I sent you a pm too.

If anyone else has problems getting a hold of them regarding a warranty just drop us an email.

Ryan

Maybe they didn’t pay for the die. Maybe the people providing the forgings to them for the first batch did. Then maybe bcl decided to move to billet for various reasons. Maybe there is more to manufacturing firearms in Canada than is found on CGN. Maybe.

There was an interview with a NEA employee regarding the details of the 102 (first gen). In that interview which was done and posted by another forum we were told they were forged. That was later corrected by Ryan on cgn to advise they weren’t and that the employee who provided those details no longer works for NEA/BCL.

Honestly with no details, I just assume it’s seriously hobby spec. I consider it my non restricted version of the DPMS LR308 Gen 1. That being said the price also matches that belief. So not upset, just hoping it will match or exceed my expectations.

I just received my second pre-order Olive rifle and while I haven’t fired it yet, I’ve changed a few little bits and bobs, and compared it to my MWS and SR-25. ‘Hobby Spec’ is an accurate descriptor.
Now, granted this is an AR-10 Type rifle and not AR-15, so there is that air of stuff not necessarily being convertible from one to the next, even AR-15 spec’d parts are a little wonky. BCL is so far holding up their NEA lineage....
I have stripped receivers on pre-order for a build, and depending on how far down the rabbit hole I go on this one, I may just cancel those receivers.

Well... in all fairness it is comparing it to 4K and 6K AR308 rifles. Two of the best out there in fact. Still it doesn't surprise me from what we know or interpreting what is likely from how little information BCL has provided.

I plan on spending as little as possible. Trigger replacement or maybe they do the trigger tech sale on these pre order 3 rifles.. Stock and pistol grip change, and hopefully that's it. I might change the charging handle if I find I don't like it. But the goal is to keep it as close to stock as possible. I might do some minor upgrades such as the extractor spring with the poly elastomer ones that DPMS upgraded to along with better gas rings. But that will be later. The plan is to keep it close to original and not spend a fortune on upgrades/parts.

I suspect this will fit in my collection above my DPMS LR308 and below my ARmalite AR10b rifles with LMT then KAC at the top. For that price point that is acceptable. But... until I get it in my hands I won't know. Highly public issues with a few of these that isn't comforting. But there are also estimated 500 or more out there now. If it was universally a POS, there would be a lot of uproar everywhere by now. So I'm remaining optimistic while also being a realist about what the product actually is in terms of quality. Again, I think it's Canadian DPMS. From a business point of view that's a smart move by BCL. DPMS had the major share of AR308 rifle marketplace. It was due to DPMS that magpul decided to make pmags for the AR308. Now those mags are the standard. So it makes sense that they are following this business model.

I think if you put good quality parts in these rifles it makes all the difference, the .338 federal I put together, shoots really well, no problems with feeding or ejecting, and the gun has a little more kick than my .223. I had a .338 federal in a troy PAR and the thing kicked pretty good, this rifle is totally opposite. I really like the rifle. Now I spent a lot on money to get it to this point, but I am happy I did

So to keep people informed, I got an email from BCL on the 6th, and they requested that I send the rifle to them. That's what I did. Replied to them with the tracking number, and added it in the warranty information page.

Let's see what the next step is.

Thanks again Ryan for your help!

I'm glad this is finally moving along, but part of me is still wondering how long I would have waited for BCL's response had you not intervened.

Sent mine back last week. Wondering when I’ll get it back?

Uhh... sure. What ever you say.
