Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

for you guys that have taken the grenade shroud off, is the a small recess cut on the bottom at the front of the barrel. I have a type 81 bayonet and it has a small lug that comes up on it just behind the barrel ring. Iv seen pics of the military service rifle and it has that small cut out notch on the bottom of the barrel and was wondering in the Canadian version has it on it.

Mine doesn't have any notch sorry.

Absolutely gorgeous looking with the red tones. This justifies what I wanted to do myself. Thanks. ;) I've been waiting on my two Type 81's to show up so I could do just that same thing to my wood stock version. I've already got the AK-74 pistol grips on hand for 3 of my red rifles and I also have the wood stain ready to go too. Then just a few minutes with a hack saw to remove both hoods on each of the sights and it should be my type of rifle.

Does anyone know where to get the bakelite ak pistol grips? Im sure there rare to come buy but any directions on what dark corners i should be watching would be nice.

The EE in this forum sometimes has them...

Another option is these folks in the UK, the grip I currently have on my Type 81 is from them. I will warn u now, the shipping speed was absolutely mental. I could've rowed to UK and back to get it faster.
