Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

I just ordered some tools and parts for my own project. Barrel threading dies, grips etc. The classic laminated furniture i will try to make out of cabinet grade plywood using original parts for size and reference and some elbow grease. I did make this "concept art" in photo shop to serve as some inspiration for myself.

Now this is something I'd like to see.

I've taken apart the safety on mine and it seems simple enough to get a new internal cylinder machined for short throw which you could then drill and tap to accept an AK style selector onto the right side of the receiver, I think this idea would fit your build nicely.

this mod would be super nice to have as long as ak safety gets adapted... then this rifle will cost like 2.5K easily

I already started a little work on the front sight to make it open topped like the ak. Considering how soft the material is, there should be no issue replacing the front sight block with a piece of steel shaped to appear like the slanted gas block of an ak. The front sight block is heavily vented so excess gas can pass through especially when the gas port is set to 0 so it is not a pressure bearing part. When i do make the slanted "gas block/sight" replacement i plan to have the same vent hole and to put the cross pins back through the same channels so as not to leave weak points in the barrel. Easier said than done but can be done none the less.

But what about the non traditional t81 cheese grater foreend type tacticool mods with a few home brew spins bros im thinking some type of m14 ebr looking pdw collapsible streamlined real talk

Finally broke in the T81 last couple days, got it out to the range couple days in a row with a total of 300rds through it (hey had other stuff to shoot too!) - a mixture of Barnaul SP's and Dominion (supposedly) non-corrosive. Have four mags in total, and zero failures with either ammo or mags incl. BHO on last round. Sights seemed to be on for 100m, at the end of it all was reliably hitting a 12" gong at 100m but iron sights are far from great for me anymore, and well it's not a rifle known as a tack driver so all in all I'm happy with it. Was fun to use, soft shooting, relialble, and cleans up easy = good initial function test.

Contacted TI last week to see if they had the updated (colour match, for those of us in the first batch) folder cheek pieces available; had them in the mail to me next day and got them today.

Guess I now have a choice lol.....
