I attended the court meeting this morning and the Crown Dropped All Charges against Eddie Maurice

Interesting, this article in the Calgary Herald mentions some new "compelling" forensic evidence that let the Crown to drop the charges. I wonder what it was? There was no mention of any specifics...
also good to see the dirt-bag criminal will be facing charges. As he should.

Great news! I’m very happy for the Maurice family. I hope the money raised covers their legal bills.
And great job supporting them, gunnutz!
I’m very surprised that the charges were dropped. I discussed his case with two Crown counsel I know well, and their view was that it is “very unlikely that the Crown will not push to have the reasonableness of the use of a firearm tested in court”.
This “compelling forensic evidence” is really curious. I hope it’s disclosed, eventually.
This is excellent news.
Reading between the line though, it also means they never had enough evidence to make a case.
They charged him anyways in an effort to try punishment by process, which is frankly disgusting and should be called out.
Also, pretty sure in this case recommendations to charge him did not come from the mounties.
Have dealt with enough rural RCMP to know how most feel about this.

Maurice had said all along that when he saw thieves on his property, he fired a warning shot, and that it was a ricochet bullet that struck the intruder.

Maurice fired a 'warning shot'. It was a ricochet that hit the burglar. An Alberta jury wouldn't have convicted Maurice in any case and the Crown knew it...
This is absolutely fantastic! Congratulations to Ed Maurice and family.
Can we keep this thread active and now focus on Pete Khill (pronounced 'kay-hill')? Is all the Fundrazr money now spent? Can Ed Maurice afford to help Pete Khill???

Alright. So we got another small win. Good work Autolite, for keeping this thread rolling.
Isn't it better to put this one to bed, and then start a new one for this Pete Khil gent, focused on him and the details of his situation?
Crown doesn't want any more precedent that would impact the government's "we'll take care of you" agenda
Indeed, a new, separate thread for Pete Khill would likely be best. However, I thought it would be best to give the supporters of the Maurice family an initial heads-up reference the Peter Khill case. Is there any money left over from the Maurice campaign that could help Khill???
