Picture of the day

Read “One Day in August” it is an excellent book and will change your view on history. It seems very plausible to me that while it is a true shame that so many lives were wasted, they would have been greatly offset by the capture of an Enigma machine. If you enjoy war history and are Canadian, it is a must read.

I've got O'Keefe's book and until it is proven to be historically incorrect, it makes more sense to me than any other theory justifying the Dieppe raid. Too many people and moving parts otherwise for just a coastal raid with little or no chance of success.

Many blame this attractive truck driver's cousin:

Not by any current Royal, that's for sure!

No kidding!! I am sure, as any doting mother would be -- she would be desperately happy if Charles could take over... however I am equally sure that whenever the poor woman tries to have a meaningful discussion with that dolt about his prospects --- memories of his recorded call to Camilla about his desire to be her tampon and the very serious revelation he proudly made that he talks to his plants ...well I imagine she just sighs - and soldiers on!

(at least the dear old Queen Mother had her gin and tonic to help her deal with the family!)

Yes, "Chuck" did manage to discredit himself as a serious adult with all that human tampon talk and his other goofiness.:sok2 He spoke at the Vimy 100th ceremony last spring and came across a lot better than French President Hollande who started babbling about climate change stuff.:rey2

William would be a better candidate methinks. I see our connections with the royalty becoming more tenuous after QE2. Both the UK and Canada have undergone huge transformations since she was crowned. I was in Grade 1 when she became queen and all of us got a commemorative coin which I still have somewhere. Another big event was seeing a new dollar bill with the image of the new Queen.

Well, I say out of the whole bunch of them... I vote

Kate Fer King !!

Her Royal Hotness is really something. That dirty little half smile she grants us from time to time is worth watching for. I sense she is a woman with a standing account at Vicky's Secret. Billy married well.

Anyhow, speaking of hot items for the British market, here's an early Allison powered Mustang IA at the factory, being prepped for shipment to the UK in 1942

Best looking version of the Mustang. Easy to see why it was often misidentified as an ME109 by trigger happy AA crews.

Confusion would have been worse with a few of these around...

Poor old EB-102 suffered a landing accident (something that even the best German pilots did) after flying a mere 29 hours out of Wright Field. She was summarily scrapped.

EB-100 is a Me109F
EB-102 is a Me109G

EB100 & EB102 were serial numbers assigned to these captured air frames when assigned to Wright Field.
G model used smaller diameter propeller with a wider cord than the F model.

Not to confuse with the F model with the Avia S-199 with Jumo engine.

The guys who flew the 109 thought of the F model as the best of the breed. The G was "more airplane" but had lost something.

Want rarity? The BF-109X was powered by the BMW 801 radial that helped make the FW190 such a solid aircraft.

Dig that crazy bubble canopy, too.

Looks somehow Japanese to me. Maybe it's the big mill followed by the long skinny tail... I'm still not sure i like the look of it, but there is something appealing about it.
