Anyone’s pull a moose tag or!!

I got a cow, and two of my other buddies in a group of four got a bull and a cow. So if we get lucky, that's a lot of meat!

Never did understand the logic behind shooting a cow or calf. Kind of like shooting yourself in the foot, and then wondering why you have a limp...

Jesus Mary mother of god ....I just about filled my pants .....son of a biscuit ....I got a bull tag .....mother floocker !!!!!area 31

Agreed, I will be making tag soup with my calf tag. Same reason I do not apply for doe tags in 61, not a big enough population there to warrant shooting does.

Drew a cow tag for 18A. Surprise, because only two group 1 hunters. They usually give out more bull tags than cow tags, but more people apply for bulls so odds are better to draw a cow. Cows are better eating unless you get a young bull. I agree, I would prefer to apply for bulls and leave cows to produce calves, but the system dictates otherwise. Some areas they give out more cow tags because they think there is a shortage of bulls. The system is seriously flawed in so many ways, but upper echelon MNR have their career invested in it so it can't be wrong. One big problem in my opinion is the forestry companies spraying to selectively kill the young deciduous growth that moose love. Check a clear-cut that has been moose pasture a year or two after spray and there will be no fresh moose sign.

never understood too ... but with what is happening in the yukon we should look and be envious of others still able to hunt ... the days soon will reduce our access to the paradise it was ...

my group got bull tag for 18A, i’m waiting on confirmation of the dates when we head up but most likely will be there on the eve of opening, good luck

First time drawing and it was in a northern ontario Wmu... unsuccessful. Got my calf tag in the mail yesterday. Father in law also drew a calf... we are pool 2 and I don’t even know what that means.

It means you really didn't have a chance unless you apply for a very northern, remote unit. Pool 1 applicants are drawn first, and only if there are left over tags will pool 2 applicants have a chance. First year you apply, you're in pool 2. If you draw a tag, the following year you're in pool 2.

4 years in pool 1 and another calf tag . Never again . 6 years ago was our last adult tags so if it's money the province is after they've received quite a bit from us but no more .

My crew is saying exactly the same thing. They've been threatening for a couple of years, now, but, this was the final straw that broke the camel's back. I hope Doug Ford's new Minister of Natural Resources cleans the liberal cadre synchophants that have infested that ministry out to the fukcnig walls without mercy, permanent Employment Insurance........after their sunshine list severance is completely exhausted and their gold-plated pensions get the snot taxed right out of them, too. Fcku 'em all and the horse they rode in on.

I wouldn't have an issue if his family could consume the 6-7000 plus pounds of meat. They would have to consume 16-19 lbs of meat per day for a year to eat it all.
I wouldn’t either , except the going rate is 75/quarter. It’s a slow year for him, he used to shoot one every set of days off of a 7/7 rotation, cow, calf, bull anything and everything. Many more do it too, Between selling salmon and wild game the natives west of here make a killing, sadly there is a market for it.

I didn't think it was legal for them to sell it?

I've always wondered if the moose eat the fresh sprayed browse or not. Hopefully the smell or taste stops them from foraging!

I stopped regularly buying a moose licence and applying for tags, years ago. After over 20 years without ever drawing a tag, I had had enough. Now, I only buy a licence on occasion: if we've encountered sign of a calf while out early season bird hunting. But, of course, still haven't seen a calf during the actual season.

You should be good then... I have shot a whack of bulls in 31, three in 38 and five in 29... that whole region is excellent moose country.

After my old gang got too old to continue the moose hunt, I stayed in the draw for 4 or 5 years before giving up. Well now I'm back in this year with a new group of guys, of course all in pool 2, after being out of it for a few years only because my brother bought property up north. Now that we don't have to worry about finding a place to go once we found out if we drew a tag in august. As none of us are going if its only calf, just hope it doesn't take too many years for one of the guys to get an adult tag.
