Maccabee Defense SLR information and updates

Sounds like an application issue.

I have a cerakoted shotgun that I use in a salt Marsh, the metal parts have never even scratched, even tried scratching it with a brass key, (the brass line wipes off) the wood has had some wear around the grip but I just painted right over it and it looks awesome.

Application can be an issue for sure. I assume that Cerakote is not nearly as uniform in thickness as proper anodizing and the quality is very much dependent on the applicator. But I am also willing to bet that your shotgun was steel and not aluminum, but I could be wrong. The issue with aluminum and Cerakote is that it is much softer than steel, dents easily and then the Cerakote can flake. Anodizing hardens the aluminum and from what I am reading is still the preferred as a precursor to Cerekote if a company chooses to Cerakote aluminum since it can bond well to the anodized surface.

I wonder if we could get unfinished sets for anywhere near the $90 that another company has advertised for their AR upper/lower combo?
I would go that route and outsource the anodizing myself but I doubt their production costs are that low.

I'm actually not too worried about Cerakote. I had an Aero Precision upper/lower with the factory FDE Cerakote, and Aero Precision states that they Cerakote on the bare aluminum of all their Cerakoted receivers. Nobody seems to complain about durability issues with them. I understand that there is the issue of people originally paying for anodized receivers, that's still what should go out. I'd rather have a good Cerakote than poor anodizing though.

Yes, correct steel... but also walnut and I have seen zero flaking or chipping there.
Just got word last night though that my anodized receiver is going in the mail Monday (or possibly today , but I doubt it)

Dang, thought I might be the first on the island to get one.

I see the slr going the way of bcl if ATRS gets there nr frt. Macabee seems to be as much of a joke as bcl.

And how are they a joke?? The product is well made. MDI has had many delays(frustrating I know) and now they have issues with their anodizer. So as explained above there are 2 options. Opt for Cerakote and keep deliveries rolling, or source a new anodizer and wait some more. With the whining and entitlement of so many it doesn't seem to matter what MDI does people will continue to complain. Or, get your deposit back and MOVE ALONG!

I have never commented on any of these type threads about waiting on firearms for a long time. But i tell you what, to say someone is acting entitled because the product they paid a deposit on is getting changed in a way they do not want, is a seriously stupid comment.

I agree with this statement. I believe the end product will be well made but the change at the last second to try to keep some sort of schedule rolling is annoying at the least and not fulfilling the agreed on product in general. They do this without notifying people and letting the vendors bear with the fallout is not acting in good faith.

It's a DEPOSIT, it is not paying for anything other than a spot in line. I absolutely agree that changing the finish this close to delivery is not a great move but as I posted above MDI has but two options. Use cerakote and keep deliveries going or find a new anodizer and add to the wait. With many complaining about the wait MDI decided to start releasing sets in small numbers. Now that they have issues with the anodizing they are stuck with a hard choice. And as I mentioned, it doesn't matter what they do people still b*tch and whine. So the choice for the consumer is simple. Take a cerakote set, wait for an anodized set, or get your refund and MOVE ALONG. What's stupid is the fact that people can't seem to figure this out.

Whats stupid, is the fact that in your eyes, its wrong for someone to want exactly what they paid a deposit for. The reason for the deposit is to show a commitment from a buyer that they are interrested in buying a certain product, as stated.

What's a joke is after months of delay they figure out that anodizing is a problem. Why didn't they look into this months ago? I have a set in the mail and another in line. Macabee seems clueless as to how to run a business and are lucky they have a niche product and ATRS has no frt. If ATRS had their frt months ago macabee would be done.

I’m not a lawyer, but I believe if you offer consideration, you have bought the item and are in a binding contract. MDI changing to cerakote would be considered a breach of contract.

Exactly. This is why it is a big deal. Given the fact they did not specify timelines exactly that is not breach of contract but anodizing was a specification of said contract. Why should I have to accept alteration of this contract without being consulted/compensated? How is this my fault?

bah it was 100 bucks, having experienced cerakote only on my bcl I am no longer interested, i will likely cancel if they dont anodize anymore, someone else will gladly take my spot.

It's kinda like buying a car. You place a deposit on it, you take it to be inspected, if it isn't what you thought it was, you take it back and get your deposit back. Pretty simple. Just skipping the inspection part and going straight to the not what you were told/thought it was. Take your deposit and walk away.
