Reimagining the Rook rifle, an all Canadian custom 3.75lb 5.6x50 Magnum

Same thoughts... I’ll keep them in my pocket and warm, as that’s where they came out of. I think CFE223 is the future after these just loading one box of Mexican.

I have had very good performance from CFE-223 in a number of similar chamberings... I bet it will work well.

Awesome just went and looked, need a Mauser stock? :d I’ve got one of those.

Beautiful. 96 or 98?

Well I did it... ahead of schedule, 22”. Didn’t have my chrono here so recorded drop at 300 yards with a couple loads with the 27.25” barrel, will reshoot the same in the same weather and see what’s changed. Regret not being able to make a science of shortening it but also love the “haircut”.

That looks perfect!

Great work.

What contour is the barrel? I'm guessing it's not that thick, but the tiny action makes it almost look like a bull barrel. Not bad, just an observation on the size of the action.

thanks for sharing with us.

No way to say, I hand filed the contour, dustpan is full of steel there. :d Shortening her did make it look beefier! It’s deceivingly slim, I’ll measure the diameters later. I am considering a different take on fluting, but want to shoot her as is and see what the groups are.

I agree with "the spank" checkering would finnish it off. A beautiful rifle like that deserves a fancy little wrap around checkering pattern. jmo Ardent, it looks great already. I personally wouldn't attempt checkering unless I was practiced up, I would have it done professionally.

I really like the silver nitride receiver. It makes the rifle “pop” out at you. Beautiful job! Do you have the facilities to nitride it yourself or did you send it out? I don’t think 25-30 lpi would take away from your grain at all? Imo opinion it would really give the rifle that little extra English hand crafted “best” look!
