Where have you been? I thought you gave up on us. ;)

Some days I'd like to give up but it's not in the job description, works been keeping me pretty busy. We're starting on our third highway job already and the other three plants haven't even finished their first one and it's July already. More or less were taking up all the slack of the puppy pumpers.

Just caught this thread cause I see I'm only one of 6 guys that voted 375 Win and thats only cause I've got a 99 in that caliber.

Oh ya Paul, your still #1 in my book!!!!!:D

Sorry about the Big words MadDog... it's the only way I can get my shots in on Super. He is PDQ on the comebacks and sometimes he even hurts my feelings.:(
I'm serious... slightly.:)

I'd get the .375 H&H. As always, I prefer the time tested, "can find it anywhere", sorta thing.

I read a story of a guy that spent $35K on a lion license and went to Africa with an obscure caliber, and when he arrived his ammo/gun did not. So he ended up with a life time opportunity on a big male lion and a borrowed gun in his hands that was not suited to the situation at all.
So carrying his "pet" caliber cost him $35K.

I think the .375 Ruger could end up being a commercial success, but since I have never actually wanted a .375 I'll wait.

I figure with a .338WM and .416Rem in the closet I am covered regardless, and I'll just watch to see how this all unfolds.

The irony of this situation is that some .375H&H guns could become available and I might be able to snatch one for cheap... or not.

Heathen! Everyone knows the 38-55 is the superior cartridge in the 99. Seriously, that's a nice gun/cartridge combo, I've been keeping an eye out for one myself (already have the 38-55). - dan

Of the 375's I have the 375 Taylor would be my fav., next the Ruger, then the 375 Wby, then the H+H. I had both 378 and an ultra mag but I couldn't shoot either comfortably so they went to new homes. The Taylor is the nicest to shoot and gets about the same vel as the H+H with a shorter action and slightly lighter rifle. Thanks PAUL this one's a keeper as is her sister the 416 Taylor. As to the fellow whose ammo/gun didn't show there could have been a cupboard full of 375 ammo there but he still had no gun. (as per the story)

As much as I like the H&H, there are a few aspects about the 375/338 I like better. Fitting into a standard 30/06 action is the main one and using a more modern design of brass is another reason. Matching H&H velocities is good too as they seem to be working well enough for almost 100 years, all over the world.

I wish I hadn't sold the 1st one I had, so now I have another in the works. :)

More evidence that money does not buy brains...Someone using some sort of esoteric cartridge should use thier head on an expensive hunt. Shipping some ammo to your outfitter i advance is cheap and simple insurance.

The guy wasn't thinking....Not the fault of his wildcat.:)

Hey Gatehouse... Question for ya...have you tried to eject a live shell from the chamber after loading? I heard that unfired cartridges will not clear the ejection port and you must free the live round from the ejector claw to remove them! Is this true?

Yikes, definately could not see that being the case. Factory length ammo must eject. No way Ruger would come out with something like that.

:DI feel pretty good, not so much about making the righ caliber choice for my hunting situation, 'cause the ruger would do just as good of a job, but when and IF I ever want to sell the H&H........:D NOT

Of course- one of the first things I tried...

It will rail them in and yank 'em out in a hurry!!

I have zero use for a hunting rifle that will not behave properly!!

The factory ammo *almost* gets to the end of the magazine, it feed like greased sausages and ejects the same....:D
