Remington 783 Heavy Barrel

ok, I'm jumping on this 783 band wagon now that Timney are putting something out, the weight is less than advertised and the new threaded bolt knob. This is a great little platform. Probably grab a .308 and go from there.

Not into chassis, what other stocks are available for the 783 ?

Been following Jerry's/Mystics posts and others and it's too compelling for the price and prefit options not to try it out. It just hit me this is a budget Ultimatum Deadline platform. Not sure why I didn't see it that way before.

Thanks for the inspiration guys.

Haven't looked so this might be a stupid question but where are you guys getting spare mags for the 783's ?

Also, who do you find generally has the best prices on the heavy barrel versions ?

I ordered extra mags through Cabelas awhile back, can't speak to pricing though.

I wouldn't say that necessarily.
A budget deadline would be a savage 10, as it has 25x+ more aftermarket support ( the savage) for barrels, stocks, chassis, triggers, etc etc...
And the deadline being a 700 platform, also has the same support, even more.
I have ordered my 16.5'' heavy 783 anyways, and do own a savage 10 and a deadline, and do see the 783 as a very limited platform aftermarket wise.

So I guess we can't buy 16.5" pre-fit barrels though ....

Why not?

as interest grows for this platform, I expect aftermarket stock/chassis option to also grow. Likely alot of R&D was halted when Rem went into bankruptcy... I hope the development gets rolling now.

At least we know that Timney is going to be making a trigger....

Then the 783 is getting there

Trigger has got support
Barrel has got support

20 moa rail TBD
Stock/chassis, still the weak link hopefully not for long

20 MOA rails have been available from EGW for some time... want one :)

DBM from PT&G for both SA and LA available for some time... they also offer bolt heads in a variety of sizes.

Boyds have a few options for stocks... really no different then any other common factory rifle.

Chassis is lacking with MDT offering the LSS... hopefully, other options to follow????

On the hunting side, seems like the 783 is popular enough with the new shorty quite a hit......

Just keep bugging the manfs for the stuff you want.. the more interest, the more goodies.

We will have to see how sales and interest in the US drives the market. Rem is back at it and these new rifles are now hitting shelves. Demand either grows or doesn't but like other platforms before, it will take time... and shooters voicing their demands.

On the upside, the Rem engineers have already designed the AICS/AW genetics into the action.... set up is a no brainer.

Did shoot mine today it is grouping tight. With Hirt ammo easy MOA at 75 metres off the piknik table. Future is promising for the shorthy.

Yeah you're right. I was more referring to the pre-fit barrel and floating bolt-head design.

I wouldn't say that necessarily.

Haven't seen any 16.5" after market pre-fits. I'm sure the market will grow however.

The prefits I offer are made individually to customer specs... they are not cookie cutter nor mass produced. So you will not see a catalog of them at a website...

Have a visit at the McGowen barrel website.. ALL specs and options are possible. I have an octagonal fluted prefit ordered for a customer... can't wait to see how that looks like.

Contours, twists, lengths, finishes, features... all up to you.

Also check out their list of reamers... YES, that is all possible.

PM or email to discuss...

I JUST picked one up on a strait trade for my 10/22 build.
Chambered in .223 and now mounted a 4-16x42 Nikon M223, threaded a Brake on the end and squeezed a few quick shots off.

Haven't really played around or tried too hard with it but I'm a big fan of it so far. I have only used it with a 3-9 cheapie bushnell before the Nikon and still the thing is well capable of my skillset with Fed 55gr FMJ.

And heck... for the price of a 10/22 ? Can't go wrong.

My only complaints are that I can't find any anything for it so far (mags or replacement stocks, upgrades etc.), the stock is pretty noisy/hollow but not much flex for a synth factory setup. Recoil pad is on par with the limbsaver on my Tikka.

Feeds and extracts quite well so far too (only 30 rnds through it)

I reccomend!
