The T97 Thread!

Ended up selling my t97, I have the real qbz 95/97 sling for sale.. thought I’d give you guys first crack at it before I post it. Pm for price shipped.. cheers

I want to put a lower rail on my Gen 2 i just picked up. Could you guide me in the right direction to find one like yours?

It's a Magpul MOE L5 rail. You'll need to trim the edges to fit in the opening of the lower handguard, and drill two holes to lock it in with the included screws and plates. Once done it's rock solid.

Just got my new mag release in.
Just how do you change it?
Is it like an AR, just push from the other side and unscrew it out and then back in?

Nope. You unscrew the button itself. Get it started with some pliers and then you can finish with a screwdriver once it's out far enough.

I actually found a bit that fits it perfectly.
I think it is called a security bit.

Long story short, I changed out the mag release for the Yui parts one but still have a question.
The right side, the little button remains the same.

The left side now has the thumb push and forward of it, the long bar that fits the length of the oval and holds the mag in place.
I found that the thumb press part of the release is lightly springy.
However the long arm that moves to release the magazine needed to be pushed back flush into the receiver the first few time.
It got a bit better with a few mag changes, the new mag forcing the long bar more into postion.
Does it keep getting more springy in returning to place after more frequent mag changes?
Or is there a specific length the button on the right side should be screwed down at?

I like the mag release being left handed as well now,
just little patience to change mags a hundred times.

Looks great! How do you find the magpul butt plate mod? Does it serve a different purpose to the original? I was never sure as to the reason for it's reason.

Cheers!

Finished with mine for now!

Mods:
- threaded muzzle
- MOE lower rail
- reshaped grip with milliput (basically added more girth to the back of the grip)
- washer and locktite the top rail screws
- t97.ca buttplate with Magpul thin plate

The thing spits out brass wayyyyy out there so might consider the "0" position gas piston mod for a bit less gas. Overall the Gen 2 shoots well and is pretty accurate!

For me, it gives a more solid shoulder tuck with a bit more contact surface that is flat instead of rounded. It also changes the lines of the rifle a bit which is more esthetically pleasing.

So i brought 7 pmag and found out that only 4 fits (Gen2). Went back to Cabela and went through 12 mags and found 3 that fits. If i brought these pmags online i would of been screwed.

I also feel that it is necessary to upgrade the butt-pad, because the original T97 straight butt-pad is at a wrong angle. For the most natural and comfortable cheek weld, I have to raise the stock a little higher, with the bottom corner of the T97 butt-pad against my collarbone. Not very comfortable. Not that I can't shoot like that, or lower the stock a bit, but not ideal.

With a lower, angled butt-pad, the T97 cheek weld is much better.

And by the way, I used some Birchwood Casey Aluminum Black (available in many gun stores) to turn the white markings on the T97 into dark engravings. I will also post a picture here, in THE T97 Thread. Maybe some other people have the same OCD as mine.

So just recently bought a Gen 2 and interested in input on a couple things.

First, as far as magazines, what have people done to sole fit issues? Is it just generally narrowing of the spine or rear of the magwell?

Also on optics, what height risers are people using. It seems like an AR height riser is a little much on the Gen 2 factory rail.

Thoughts?

i have 7 c products defense mags (3 of the grey Teflon ones, 3 LAR mags and 1 random GI type mag) that all fit, feed and drop free without fail. Pretty much my go to mag for t97 although I have a couple gen 2 pmags that also work well. I have a gen 1.

Hey guys, what do you think the best FRONT sling mount method is for the T97?

The tiny loop beside the gas block is very small and close to the barrel and the lower handguard, so normal sling hook is out of the question. I saw somebody used a keyring there. It would work, but I don't like how it looks and sounds.

There is keymod holes on the upper handguard, but since it is attached to the rifle with only 2 screws with questionable security, I really don't want to add more load to it. I prefer that it bears the weight of the optics/sights only.

Does anybody have a solution of mounting a sling to the front, especially a QD mount of some sort, but NOT on the upper handguard?

I have a gen 2, plastic lower handguard, and am not ready to drill a hole there, either. Thanks.

Tried a PLA along with the little loop?

Blue Force Gear Universal Wire Loop is what I use and sounds exactly what you're looking for.
