The CANADIAN Ruger Gunsight Scout Discussion Thread

I think the operative word there may be biothane. A Rodesian sling that had some grip would be just the ticket. Even in leather I found the Andy’s sling worked way better for me than The Galco. The Galco drove me crazy, easpecially when wearing a pack.

I finally got all the bits and pieces added to mine.

I had one of the earlier 18" models with an extended eye relief scope. I wasn't terribly impressed with the weight and balance. This one however is perfect. My goal for this one was light so I went with an Aimpoint T1 on an ADM mount. I also replaced the factory loudener with an A2 flash suppressor. I'm really happy with it so far.

Love the rig! Since you have experience with both, why would you say Andy's sling is an upgrade over Galco's? I find my Andy's sling to be a pain in the proverbial neck to use since it's so slippery for carrying on my shoulder.

I prefer Andy's stuff for both carrying and shooting. I've used his Rhodesian slings on a variety of rifles, and his Ching slings live on my Steyrs and one slug gun of mine.

Agreed - the Galco was okay for shooting, poor for carrying. The biothane slightly beats the natural leather for shooting (ZERO stretch, so you are rock solid when slung up), and the leather slightly beats out the biothane for carrying. I run the Biothane in both Rhodesians and Ching slings for rugged use where I think that water may be playing a big factor.

I slapped on the terrifyingly named Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 that I found in my gun room to see how I liked it. I was forced to mount it way further back than I prefer as it was bumping on the XS rear peep sight. So I may end up going with another scope. 308 doesn't recoil much though, so maybe it's not a big deal. :)

The Strike Eagle didn't allow me to get a good cheek weld although I liked the idea of the illuminated center of reticle so I swapped it for a similar looking SWFA 1-4 that has a little illuminated diamond with a dot in the middle. It's a better fit for me with this rifle.

Does anyone have a source for a left-hand polymer stock for the GSR? Either a Canadian supplier or an American source that will ship to Canada.
My Google-fu is failing me.

I'd like to shed a bit of weight by replacing the laminate stock.

Thanks in advance!

as far as I know the Ruger synthetic stock is still nonexistent, only other makers offer anything, and they cost dearly and offer no real weight savings.

I have a Gunsite Scout with synthetic stock (black).
Originally bought from Prophet River...if i remember well. Previous owner bought new but lost his job before he even took it to the range.

Still looking for a rear site if any one has one they want to part with

I might have one for you soon. I'm looking to go to a traditional scope setup on mine now.

Side note: The OEM ruger rings these came with are 1", correct?

Another side note: I'm also thinking of going to a synthetic stock so I can paint it. If anyone wants to trade for a laminate, hit me up! Otherwise, where would I be able to find one?

Well after 3 years of successful deer hunting I'm looking at changing up my 2-7 Burris scout scope on my 18" 308. This year I found myself on a decent little perch with an amazing view on each side but felt limited by the scope.

I will be upgrading to an XS full rail to be able to still have the iron sight option and another set of quick release rings. I was thinking about the Nikon Prostaff 5 2.5-10 BDC.

I'm looking for recommendations on a scope to go with! Shoot away :sniper:
