2 dead after suspected bear attack in central Yukon, RCMP says

I also suspect something happend before the bear got there...

Rare for a bear to kill two people in one location... I suspect that something went down before the bear got there... unless it broke into a cabin or something of the sort. Will be interesting to hear the details.

It's quite common to see toddlers carried in some sort of harness, either like a backpack or in front. If the child was being carried like that she may have just been caught in the middle.

A friend of mines wife happens to be best friends with the deceased. I’m told this woman was a very special person. Her absence will be felt by a great deal of people.

Remember that Yogi and Boo Boo only go into torper (a semi sleep) during the winter. They crawl out of den every so often when the weather is nice and feed a bit.

The poor father must be devastated. I hope he gets social support from where ever.

For any of you that have encountered an occupied bear den, where the owner comes out at you, and you had to respond, you are sort of glad you have survived. And you will never forget the incident.

medvedqc it would appear you have some more atachment to this incident?
Are you close enough to the affected family or the community?
I feel the empathy in your post on this topic.
Curious is all, no need to divulge publicly.
One can never be to careful in the bush.

it is getting worse. some are using that tragic event to push their business agenda. i really like Jim Shockey but it went too far especially knowing that during the plan on grizzly management nor him nor his business partner came to talk. i hope he has documented his request for a bear to be killed because being too dangerous ...

to sum up dancing on the graves is not something people should do because they are campaigning or want more hunt on their area ...

She was connected to a friend of mine as well, I had met her at their wedding a number of years back. When I saw the picture her eyes stood out, I knew I had met her before. I spoke with my friend the other night, this hits really close to home for both of us, we both have toddlers, he has a fish camp south of Whitehorse and my family has a hunt camp, I do not feel that I need bear protection in my area of Ontario but he will be stepping up his bear protection.

This is horrible, I cannot say that I would have been as strong as that man was, keeping himself together after that.

Whether or not we agree with Jim Shockey's comments, I believe it is still a bit fresh in the minds of many people affected by this terrible incident to bring up who may or may not be at fault. The time for mourning and support is now, the time for solutions is later.

Deepest condolences to the father, family and friends. May they all find some sort of peace and a way to carry on as life goes on for the living. R.I.P.
