The 45-70 club, are you in?

Only one I currently have is a 1895 CBA - it is a rem made gun, the blueing on the receiver not as deep as the old guns and the lever has sharper edges.....but the design and balance of the CBA is, at least for me, far superior to the guide guns (thinner, lighter). There is no checkering and no recoil pad - but i actually like that on this rifle.

I have owned:

-stainless guide gun (jm)
-blued guide gun (jm)
-ported blued guide gun (jm)
-regular 1895 (jm and remlin)
-ruger no.3 (excellent little carbine - don't let the steel plate scare you, it's a great little gun)
-cavalry sharps (pedersoli)
-a couple handi rifles

Have shot multiple sharps and rolling block rifles, still need to try a 1873 and a high wall in the .45-70, may need to try a Siamese mauser after that.

It's an incredibly versatile cartridge for brush and hunting work within 200yds. One of the best experiences of my life was shooting a sharps at a 1000 yd gong off of a hilltop with vernier sights and shooting sticks. A friend's dad shot bpcr (he doped ranges, set up a 4' gong and took kids out to try it - shooting like the buffalo hunters would have) and also introduced me to Quigley down under - I've loved the sharps rifle and the .45-70 ever since (yes I know quigley didn't shoot the .45-70 - at least now I do).

I have an identical copy of the first post except mine has about 5000 though it. When I figured out casting, powder coating and trail boss/unique, I started loading shells a few hundred at a time. Sure is fun lobbing 405’s at gophers.

I'm in with a ruger number one. Light and short and I can load it up til I can't stand the recoil. A good 405 hardcast bullet will take anything in North America I think...
