Groined with a Marlin 1895 GBL. Love a lever gun. My very first hunting rifle was a Marlin 30AS chambered 30/30. Took some great deer.

Hunt bear territory sometimes and going to love the security of the 45/70 with 6 rounds in the tube. Like walking around in the bush with your own personal RPG.lol....

Nippissing? you're close by, I sold my Guide Gun and still have bullets, cases, dies and loaded bullet case if you need them.
I'm in Sudbury

This is my Winchester 1886 Deluxe Case Hardened which I have nick-named the “Black Bear Sledgehammer”. I’m shooting a 400Gr Speer Hot Cor in front of 56Gr of H335. The performance was a bang flop on this Bruin.

I have reduced my 45-70 collection down to a Browning SRC, a Winchester 24” Short Rifle and this big bruiser. This rifle is on my never sell list.

What took ye so long OP? ;) I've been a 45-70 user since the 70's and currently use a Pedersoli 86-71. Started with a Ruger No.3 (Ouch machine.) then went through
a couple of Marlins and a Siamese Mauser conversion along the way. The 45-70 is a great round fer target work & big game as well as fun plinking. It's still me favorite of the .45's.

How are you liking the Pedersoli? I've never seen one first hand but they seem like the nicest .45/70 bring made currently.

Thanks. The recoil is manageable in that big hunk of steel and wood. I shot that same load in an Extra Lightweight 1886 that I used to have and to call that recoil “violent” would be very conservative. My hand would get cut from the lever. This big rifle handles it much better and very accurate to boot.

I love the bugger! She's well made & fitted and carries nice for me at least. First thing I did was fit a Pedersoli bolt mount peep sight on 'er. It fits snug & allows me to
shoot much better than with the open sight. The beasty is the most accurate of any of my previous 45-70's, especially with cast loads. (Which is all I feed 'er);)

The shotgun butt & recoil pad do a fine job of taming recoil over extensive strings on the range. I've handled & fired the Browning/Miroku versions of these and they be real nice, but I find the Pedersoli units to generally have nicer wood & just feel more "old world" to me than the Japanese made units.

Can't comment on the Chiappa made ones as I've yet to check 'em out.

I'm rather tempted to get a Pedersoli 1886 sporting rifle to have some fun with. As was mentioned in the thread, it's good to have 'em in pairs.

How do you find that shorter barreled Shiloh out at distance? Does it give much up to the longer barreled version? Nice trio you’ve got.

I only shot the 26” out to 200 yards so far. Originally plan to hunt with it. When I first drove down to Montana (Shiloh) and fondled all their guns, they have a display wall, I was a little overwhelmed with all the choices/options. The little half round oct 45-70 they had in the rack felted just right. Plus I didn’t have to wait 2 years to get it. My next one is the one above it also in 45-70 our 45 2.1” in black powder speak. Followed by two 50-90s not pictured:)

Count me in I have a GBL, and the 1895. To date I have changed the magazine follower, extractor, and put the XS rail like on the SBL for both of them. I'll probably change the trigger next. As well as the deleting the crossbolt safety.
