The 45-70 club, are you in?

Other good 45-70s I’ve owned (sold) besides the 1895GS:

NEF Handi Rifle single shot.
Miroku Winchester 1886 Lightweight.

The Marlin 1895 is still the slickest lever action and easiest to maintain.

Had a Marlin 1895GS but ended up giving it to my Son. I was never too fond of the straight stock design. When pushing the hotter top end loads the modern Marlin is capable of handling, especially with the heavier bullets, found it a little hard on the fingers. I replaced it with a Marlin GBL ;) and a Magnum Research BFR.
;) I'm in :d .

Wrapping the finger lever with rawhide leather strips stopped the finger/knuckle rapping I got from my 1895GS.

I found the same thing happening as the loads warmed up, traded the 1895G in on a 1895GBL.

I have owned a .45-70 since 1973.It is a 1911 manufactured Winchester Model 1886.Bagged my first deer using this rifle.

I have two.

All that remain in my collection from this picture are the Henry Wildlife Edition and the JM Marlin 1895GS. The others went to family.
The blued 1895G was a JM stamp unfired, with an S.I.R. sticker on the box. My dad sure loved it as his xmas gift.

I'm in. Just purchased a Marlin 1895 SBL that apparently was made in the Marlin factory.

Canadian tire had it but upon closer examination under the lever area I saw this:

Is that normal?

Action isn't as smooth as I hoped but I assume I gotta work it in...

Yes, I'm in. I have Buffalo Classic with Lyman front sight and Smith Industries rear ladder peep site. Its a ton of fun at the range. I've never hunted with it. The 32" barrel makes it a bit of a bear to lug.

My very first hunting rifle about 43 years ago was a Marlin 336C, sold it somewhere down the line, always wanted another lever gun and when I saw this, I had to buy it. Did the wild west trigger happy and bear proof ejector, put in a solid brass follower and added the Leupold scope, mount and a sling

I finally got to the range with my 45-70 and I'm happy!

I was surprised that the Federal ammo and the Hornady LeverEvolution shot pretty much to the same point of impact.

Cheers
Jay

Not sure I said, but I put an Elite 3200 2-7x32 on my 45-70 which is plenty for this caliber in my opinion.

Cheers

I’m in. 45-70 was on bucket list. But not anymore 1895G. Scope on it is temporary for load development after that skinners going on. It’s great fun to shoot, cast P/C and load for.
