My first reply to this disappeared?
Anyway, as discussed just yesterday on the sporting shotguns sub forum, I have a nice permanently mounted Eotech light on an 870 just for that. In a pinch, a regular light and hockey tape or string or whatever will do.
Its about the sight contrast as more than anything, you can quickly pick up an electronic sight against any sort of background, not just at night, but particularly if you've just went into a dimly lit area from a bright one, or your target backdrop is a jumble of bright and dark.
There's a reason that electronic sights are becoming increasingly popular even on handguns.
My only issue is that most of the EO sights used on shotguns are too big and snag prone IMO.
