rifles in 6.5 Creedmore?

About the only rifle cartridge Remington didn't bungle is the 7mm Remington Magnum! Still a great all around hunting cartridge for anything in Canada. :)

Prob just me, but I have had more meat loss with the 7mm mag than any other Caliber I own, from blood shot meat from bullets that basically exploded to an entire moose leg/shoulder/quarter full of bone fragments. It works, but can be messy

I had that with Nosler Ballistic tips and Partitions and Speer Grand Slams, at close range. Once I started using Barnes in my 7RM there was less meat loss but the lungs were still made into soup. :)

Remington built the 260 Rem for hunters. And its worked wonderfully with low bc hunting bullets. At hunting ranges.
Not for long range snipers turned 600-700 yrd hunters however. The creedmoor and Hornady enabled every Chris Kyle wannabe to throw lead at ranges previously unimaginable. Because it sold guns and ammo. Not because it was a better solution to the previous solution.

Rem screwed up the 260. It could have been #1 had Remington partnered up with Hornady. But they did not choose to go that route.

Chris Kyle wannabe? Hardly. But the US Military dismissed the 260 rem for the Creedmoor . However the Creedmoor does help average shooters shoot to their potential with more ease than other calibers. More people in the sport is a good thing, not a negative. Gun owners need all the help they can get, and the one way to do so is to attract new shooters

Accurate, low recoil rifles is certainly helping to do just that.

Yeah, I get what the 6.5CM can do, I just don't get the hype over it when we've had the 260 Rem for 20+ years. And no, I don't buy the theory it's somehow superior to the 260.

I suppose it comes down to marketing and a cool name.

260 was an improvement when it came to long range. The 6.5CM is an improvement over the 260 no question. Improved shoulder and shorter headspace.

Sure marketing helps as does ammunition/component supply. Either way the 6.5CM is an excellent cartridge, an improvement to anything before it and here to stay. You want to play for the winning team?

There's as many crusty old codgers buying 6.5cm ammo as there is green shooters
I’ve noticed the same at the ranges I belong to.
I'd put the 223, 22-250 & maybe the 7/08 on that list as well.
Good point. Rem has had some real homeruns over the years. Really, the 260 is a great cartridge too, it just should have been supported better. And not just cartridges... the M700, it's pretty much everywhere. Plus aftermarket and clones. Very successful.
I don't have any hate for the Creedmoor, I just have no use for it. I mainly use my 223, 308, 257 Wby, and 7mm RM. I don't see the need to shoehorn a CM into that group, the 257 is superior in all respects. :d

I suppose I shouldn't take CGN as the gospel truth for popularity of a cartridge. Case in point, I never hear about the 375 Ruger outside of this forum.
Sounds like you’ve pretty well got it all covered with that battery. We will have to wring out the 257WB vs 6.5CM another time. Haha. :)

Little leaguers eh? If anyone wants to know what trolling is....

Shall we change the subject to over compensation to relieve a sense of inadequacy in other areas... Of their life... Tell us all about your big gun and how manly it makes you feel.. Hahaha. Love it.

No question those have been successful, even with Remingtons bungling :)

The 223 was a guaranteed success due to the 5.56

The 22-250 has been very popular, although the 1-14 barrels on so many of them limit bullet selection to small bullets that go fast and then fizzle.

And I think the 7-08 has been a success despite Remington. :)

The 260 Rem is a great cartridge, it should have been at least as popular as the .243 Win, but...Remington. :)
