35 whelen build

You guys are going to make me take my Whelen out of retirement! I haven’t used it as my moose rifle since I got my .375 Ruger. I even stole the McMillan that was on the Whelen to put on the .375. But that 20” .375 Ruger and it's one shot kill on the three last moose makes it hard to switch back. I’m keeping the Whelen for when I get old enough to think that the .375 Ruger kicks too much!

what about the itch for a 9.3x62 ....

what about the itch for a 9.3x62 ....

Between the .35 Whelen and the .375 Ruger there’s not much room for the 9.3x62, even for a rifle loonie. I did consider it when I built my .35 Whelen but it wasn’t as popular 10 years ago and I ended up going with the Whelen.

This one was almost a 35 whelen then ended up a 9.3

What kind of sites you have on that slimbo?

I have been a .338 wm guy for years, finally decided my 6lb .338 kicks too much for the amount of practice I like to do after joining the .270 club recently.

I only ever got a 338 because it was cheap, my heart was set on a whelan and for years I basically loaded it as such with good results on mules and elk.

Picked up a 9.3 recently but I have been toying with the idea for years (i'd have to go back into my post count but I remember pondering this hard on a m70 when I lived in the interior) of building a 375 whelen of some kind.

For some reason I'm still thinking rebore to 375 wildcat with a safe with a couple of decent med bores in it.

Ardent is a ####ing enabler basically.

It’s got an necg banded front sight and redfield flip up peep mounted to a warne base. It wears a 2.5-8x36 when hunting

Wow, where to start, lol. I use the 270 WSM quite a bit, just like Lane does. However, I have a 338-06 (it's going to Africa with me next week!!), a 9.3x62, and a 375 H&H. I enjoy them all. They are all accurate and, I find, pleasant to shoot. Guess I just like variety, lol.

Really great rifles guys. Love me a customized M7o. At one point I had all the components together and ready to ship to Bill Leeper for a FW 338/06. I chickened out at the last minute and ordered a Shilen .30 cal FW barrel, which I had him chamber in 3o/o6. Only a southpaw could build a 'custom' that boring. ;)

Funny enough a picture you posted of your 06 on a mountain top provided some of the inspiration to have bill build this one. I was debating 06 vs 9.3 and I swung the other way!

Nice. You got more adventurous on the chambering!

A well thought out and executed build on a M7o, in almost any midrange cartridge, is pretty timeless. IMO. And Mr. Leeper definitely knew his way around the M7o!
