So I'm about to buy my first acres of land. It's in a prime hunting location and intend to build a 20x20 cabin.
Anyone here build a cabin on their own? |What was your experience...
Also, I'm looking for some free plans if you guys have to give away.

It’s a square with a triangle on top

;)

I’m a carpenter so I’ve built a lot of stuff. Go to chapters you will probably find some good books on layout and framing there. Small local lumberyard will probably have good advice Home Depot not so much. Never shop somewhere you have to put your lumber on a shopping cart. Someone with some experience to help you get the foundation and floor square will hel get you on the right track as well.

Measure thrice, cut once ;)
The third link and the Yukon Driftwood cabins are the two that I recall from memory, but have not found the driftwood cabin as of yet.

This, I built my whole house with a pencil and a piece of graph paper. :) Avoid places like home Depot, where they store the lumber indoors, like the plague. About as poor for storing lumber as possible, unless you're building a canoe.

I went through this about a year ago, looked at plans and priced out the lumber.
Then a buddy told me about an amish near me that built it for me and delivered it for less than I could buy the materials.
16X12 with porch and steel roof, its all I needed but they can go bigger

What is the cabin sitting on? Did they deliver on a flatbed or in pieces and build it on your lot?

It's hard to tell with the snow but it's sitting on 18" of 3/4" gravel, the area i'm in has real slow drainage so had to make sure it wasn't sitting in mud in spring.

They are true Amish, no phone so can't call and chat have to go visit them to order and make any changes.
They also don't drive so hire a friend of mine for deliveries that's how found out about them.
Cabin is built in their shop then roof and porch are installed on site, took them 3 hours to unload it and get it all finished.
Since then I've insulated and put in wood stove, it's perfect and cozy for my needs with lots of Turkeys and Deer.

That's pretty slick. So they hired your buddy to deliver them they came and finished the rest of the build?

I might be interested in one, I'm just up HWY 41 a ways. What is the dimensions of the cabin and what is it with the cabin and the deck?
