At the tender age of 16 I spent $100 on a No4 Lee-Enfield sporter with a badly worn two groove barrel. I didn't know any better in those days but started wondering what the heck was going on when I couldn't hit the side of a barn with that thing. Managed to get my hundred bucks back out of it and bought a brand new Ruger M77 in .308 which I still have and hunt with.

My first hunting rifle is my ruger m77 in 7x57 given to me by my father. It will be passed down to my son or daughter one day. Love that rifle killed alot of island bucks with her. For myself i bought an m77 in 300wm a little overkill for island deer but hey, i love my m77's.

Win model 88- 308 win.. I was 14 years old. Work at a cedar land after schools and in the summer to afford it.
Then I work part time at a sporting good shop in Maple Ridge and bought the first line of Weatherby vanguards in 338 win mag.
30 + years still have them both.

30-06 in a used Ruger M77.
Was purely a bird/shotgun hunter, but had a good friend I lost as a hunting partner every year come big game season.
Decided to see for myself what all the fuss was about so...
I chose 30-06 because my research convinced me that that calibre would suffice for anything I would likely care to hunt in North America. Wouldn't need another rifle!
That was almost 40 years ago, and that Ruger is still my go-to rifle. (But I do have a choice of several more that I also use!) So much for my one rifle theory.
