Camouflage clothing, yay or nay?

I use camo for both Deer are colour blind to orange I believe hence why blaze is okay. Turkey have very good eye sight but little smell so keep movement to a minimum and blend in. Deer have the extra challenge of smell so you may want some odour reducer or wash in the detergents that smell like dirt

So there is no doubt we have to wear blaze when rifle hunting deer and that they cannot see that colour but I do think it hurts the hunt to some extent. They can't see the colour but they would be able to see a large spot of a single shade and texture. think of a black and white photo with a big grey square in it. It still stands out. I assume our vests may show up with a similar effect.

I commented earlier in this thread and I wear camo usually but not really because I think it makes me invisible. Just seems the apparel that is made nice and warm and quiet and comfortable, with pockets and such that suit a hunter.... are usually found in camo.
I like hunting from a nice hide, parked on my butt or standing leanin on a tree. This type of ambush hunting I think camo might make a difference but bottom line is it keeps me warm, dry and comfortable.

on the other hand.... in this thread linked below..... my wife and her friend aren't wearing a stitch of camo..... in fact, hot pink ruled the day LOL

My usual set up for hunting in the pack is either an orange Taga rain jacket shell and rain pants or a cheap Cabela's camo rain suit.

I rarely wear camo in the picture I have on black gators, OD green pants, grey quarter zip pull over, OD green merino wool Tuff, orange baseball hat pack is a FDE Eberlestock pack frame with rifle scabbard have a 16" barreled T/C Contender carbine in 22LR in it covered by a zip on waterproof bag with my basic gear in it.

Picture is off of one of my trail cameras I'm still hunting for blacktail deer.

The most comfortable clothing I have is my camo. Also great in the rain and cold and wind. Sounds like a good idea to wear it out fishing! Besides, I hear the salmon/trout in BC have great eyesight!

Depends on what I'm hunting. If it's a free or elk that relies on it's smell more than sight, it doesn't really matter. If it's a coyote or ram that uses it's eyesight more, the camouflage jacket comes out. I wear it more often than not because it's a super nice jacket.

Nothing says your blaze orange has to be clean and shiny. I have been known to stomp mine around in a mud puddle at start of the season to take the glare off it.

Blue is not a good colour to wear while hunting deer moose elk...its within their visible light spectrum...better off to wear red or orange.

or so i've read anyways....:)

I say yay to camo. Try and blend in to your environment. Think Snipers in blaze orange lol

Almost all of them blend to a brownish blob past 50 yards anyway no matter what they claim in the advertising.

But still. It seems to work for humans.

I was once sitting on my rock in ambush waiting for the areas black tails to wander on by when a large strange blob of a creature appeared on the high ground above me. I thought I was having my second big foot encounter as the creature haphazardly wandered down the trail about 75 yards away. I got out my binos for a better look...…

It was a guy in a head to toe ghilly suit walking down the same deer tail I was hunting , walking with the wind in the same directing the deer travel LOL
Me.... Mossy oak, head to toe and lounging on a big moss covered couch shaped rock , gloves and face mask and I din't move a muscle as this clown wander along and eventually got about 10 feet away before I had to wave my hand so he wouldn't walk right beside me. Scared the livin hell out of the guy as he had no idea I was there even though I was mostly in plain view amidst the under growth and large spaced out trees.
so Ghilly suit for hunting...…. guess there's a time and place but that wasn't it LOL

I wonder if that's the same guy from around here. He wears a full ghilly suit, face paint and burlap'ed shotgun when he hunts grouse.

Back in the 80's when I was heavy into archery we went as far as full face paint, chlorophyll tablets starting a month or so before hunting season, rags tied to boots with skunk scent, camo clothes never brought into a house left outside with pine scent in plastic bags, etc!

Had whitetail bucks walk directly down wind within 20 paces and not detect our presence....:)

Camouflage is only good for hunting people as far as I'm concerned.

I typically don't hunt people but always wear camo when hunting. Nothing annoys me more than some a hole seeing me and then coming to make sure I have permission to hunt on my own property. Orange tends to attract the rectums of society when it comes to hunting.
As for the game I doubt they know the difference.

I started hunting ducks with my Dad and Grandpa when I was 7. That was over a half century ago. They never once wore anything other than earth tone jackets and heavy sweaters. They sure didn't have any trouble taking their limit more than a few times and rarely came home empty handed. Camo is a marketing tool, pure and simple. IMHO,it's not the least bit necessary.

I like camo for the fact that dirt and blood is hard to see on it lol. I find it pretty amusing when i see guys wearing hundreds of dollars worth of camo hunting the highway from their truck.
