Where does the time go? I have had this rifle here for some time and have been meaning to post a bit of detail. Here it is:
This rifle belongs to F/L (retd) John Ruckpaul, who shot competitively for many years and who shot the thousand yard Palma matches from 1958 through 1968. It is DCRA Conversion #1403.
John bought the rifle at Connaught through the DCRA. He did have a Lee Enfield Long Branch No 4 in .303, which he shot in the competitions, but later traded it away. In his words,
"I fired the .303 at the Connaught Range until I had to switch to 7.62 . All the work was under the auspices of DCRA (both rifles were used at a thousand yards). The AJ Parker sight was then installed on the 7.62.
I just ‘yard saled’ my 10X shooting jacket. It had shooting patches 1959 to to 1968 but it was just too snug in 2019. The guy who bought it wanted it for a conversation piece in his hunt camp.
I fired this 7.62 in the Palma when I was on the Alberta Team. That year, 1967 if memory serves, I was awarded a clasp to my Queen’s Medal and won the Helmer Agg Trophy. It was the grand total score of matches for Service rifle (A) and (B), 7.62 FN + 7.62 Lee Enfield.
I don’t have the original target sling for the rifle, I turfed it as I thought it would not be of use to anyone. A leather single point. But I found a sling for the 7.62. The American Military leather sling. It was used as a ‘single point’ but the the ‘keeper’ isn’t around at the moment. “

I tried to get a close-up of the conversion number, but no joy as yet....
