7.62mm DCRA LE No4 conversion thread

Apologies but why would you want to convert to original DCRA configuration? Much more interesting and historic as they are IMHO.

Just got #742, it is built on a 45 LB receiver and equipped with a PH5C sight. Receiver was drilled to add a spring loaded ejector.

Interestingly, there is some faint writing on the butt which may say: "DCRA BLACKIE (illegible) 72-82 VAL NO 83L###X (rifle's serial)".

The mag has a hand scratched serial number that is one rifle off than mine. Seems like a shooting team may have gotten a crate of sequential rifles converted to 7.62.

Can you post some pics when have time?, if not PM me please. Interested in the ejector mod and other unique stuff on it. Thx.

I see what you mean now, the wood has been modded for the heavier contoured barrels. Just curious if these were bubba jobs that’s all. Weld could be removed I believe if not secure at the end of the barrel, this where all the accuracy is and if reheated this would be a no no.

I have one with the same stock and Finnish.I think you could request a waterproof stock Finnish and polish blue metal for extra cost when you had the conversion done.

#1749, a 1943 Long Branch, is back for sale in Canada --- PM me if you need the store.

My understanding is that the .303 mag was used as a single round loading platform. Both of my DCRA rifles and most that I have seen have the .303 mag. I did try a 7.62 enfield and a 7.62 sterling mag in mine. Neither would seat fully so it seems that conversion is required.

Did see an original sling on one at the Calgary show. First one I have seen

My DCRA #502 (Long Branch 1950) use a Sterling mag without any modification. It works very well.

Where does the time go? I have had this rifle here for some time and have been meaning to post a bit of detail. Here it is:

This rifle belongs to F/L (retd) John Ruckpaul, who shot competitively for many years and who shot the thousand yard Palma matches from 1958 through 1968. It is DCRA Conversion #1403.

John bought the rifle at Connaught through the DCRA. He did have a Lee Enfield Long Branch No 4 in .303, which he shot in the competitions, but later traded it away. In his words,

"I fired the .303 at the Connaught Range until I had to switch to 7.62 . All the work was under the auspices of DCRA (both rifles were used at a thousand yards). The AJ Parker sight was then installed on the 7.62.

I just ‘yard saled’ my 10X shooting jacket. It had shooting patches 1959 to to 1968 but it was just too snug in 2019. The guy who bought it wanted it for a conversation piece in his hunt camp.

I fired this 7.62 in the Palma when I was on the Alberta Team. That year, 1967 if memory serves, I was awarded a clasp to my Queen’s Medal and won the Helmer Agg Trophy. It was the grand total score of matches for Service rifle (A) and (B), 7.62 FN + 7.62 Lee Enfield.

I don’t have the original target sling for the rifle, I turfed it as I thought it would not be of use to anyone. A leather single point. But I found a sling for the 7.62. The American Military leather sling. It was used as a ‘single point’ but the the ‘keeper’ isn’t around at the moment. “

I tried to get a close-up of the conversion number, but no joy as yet....

In case people are wondering, that last photo shows the two dowels in the butt-stock, that were apparently one of the modifications made to the rifles used at the 1967 Palma matches. I had thought that John was on the Canadian team, but he was on the provincial team, whose captain cherry-picked shooters from the other provincial teams to make up the "team Canada" that beat the Americans that centennial year.

Enfield Envoy E10 stock draws

Good Day All,
I decided to preform a deep clean on one of my Envoy rifles. Here is a few pictures showing the result of accurizing the forestock by ensuring the draws are tight and center bedding. The external hardwood dowels indicate the drawers were replaced and tightened.
Regards,
Michael
