7.62mm DCRA LE No4 conversion thread

What does 5G mean? I had a No4 once that had that electropenned on the wrist. 5 groove?

a 5G or 6G in a square box is an artifact from when the gun was chambered in .303 and had a 5-Groove or 6-Groove barrel.

It is generally an indication that the rifle was selected (to be) and used as a .303 target rifle before being converted to 7.62

From my research #1625 may be one of the 66 rifles that were used in the 1967 Palma match.
#1694,1651,and 1639 are known to have been used in the Palma match and 1625 has the same 2 dowel pins located in the same place. All 66 rifles were set up the same way.
A list of rifles numbers for the match has never been found.

I can possibly find out the history next week, if someone is serious about it.PM me .The owner is a serious collector, not a shooter, so one box of ammo would sound realistic. There may be wiggle room on the price as well.

where are the two dowel pins located on these rifles? i have such a rifle #1056 that was my father's, who shot that Palma match, and I've wondered if this was the rifle he shot....because if i'm not mistaken after the match the competitors had the option to buy the rifles they used. Was this policy in place in 1967 or was it more likely for the later matches that used commercial rifles like the Tx1200's, etc? i can't imagine the DCRA or whomever agreeing to sell all these No.4's out of their possession... my father did buy the 1200TX he shot in 1969 but we sold it shortly before he passed away. one of my big regrets in life!
