This would be my """guess""" and a in my opinion only guess since I don't know anything about the best of the best... So here's 1 of the many loooooong shots I'll take at it...
Remington was the first in the Americas starting back 1815/16 if I recall,,, that's 205 years ago... Probably one of America's first factories on top of that...
"""Purhaps""" they started building a loyal fan base from day one of the introduction that has continued to present day...
Who would not like to own one,,, Remington Country,,, and all sorts of saying and logos...
It must of worked since there sales were threw the roof in the hay-days and they slowly struggle to keep afloat in todays market times...
Let's face it,,, the BDL wood stocks look fantastic,,, they were a chunk of change in there day,,, not as much as Weatherbys,,, but they were alot more then the Husqvarnas and Parker Hails,,, the Mauser Action rifles were plentiful and all so sold in record numbers...
The Model 700 action became the game changer that folks were looking for,,, 5 million +++ in sales kind of ment they got it right,,, and yes,,, they had some down falls along the way,,, but they weathered the storms...
My Dad or Uncle owned one so the next of kind jumped on the band wagon since they are good enough to hunt with,,, there no reason why someone can't throw a few bucks into one too make it a world class top level shooter,,, again,,, don't get me right or wrong,,, this can be done with any firearm of anyone's choosing...
But at the end of the day it kinda of boils down to one thing,,, does the eye of the beholder choose to do build a rifle of ### brand,,, or are they stead fast on the Rule of Remington Country... Ha
That I don't know since I follow my own leed...
Remington is Home Baked Apple Pie and Ice Cream,,, its grass roots country dirt as folks can get...
Either your on board or your not...
At least in the eyes of our peers if that makes any difference to a person...
Let's face it,,, Remington Country irons work,,, good enough at the price point with options to improve on it """if""" we choose to customize it more towards our tastes...
Again,,, I can't say it's the best of the best since I've never owned a $$$ rifle,,, but for a few bucks less I got into the game,,, when I had some extra funds I improved each of my County units,,, not because I had to,,, it was that I wanted to since I wanted something to fit my needs and wants...
I'm old school,,, I like wood and iron,,, just me i guess...
The above is only a guess since I practic every day being wrong,,, I own my fualts and hopefully I """don't""" learn from them... LOL...
If I can't be my self and wrong,,, then I don't want to play,,, those of us that don't play follow our own paths in life,,, we're normally the type of folks that take on rifles like Remington and push them to there limits to find out if they will shoot...
I have 3 of them,,, there not the best of the best,,, nor are they the worst of the worst,,, one thing I do know,,, the rifles I own and had built will out shoot my skills on most days...
I've owned alot of irons over the years,,, just happens to be that I'm a Remington addict that can't keep my hands off them... There frugal in my budget,,, fun to use,,, build off of,,, and enjoy...
Just me i guess...
As to the best of the best is only relevant to the eye of the beholder,,, all I can say when I hear that saying is,,, I hope I never own one since I like the idea of just getting by...
Second string or following along is good enough... LOL
Cheers from the North
