Hit and miss when buying online. Better if you can go in store and inspect them yourselves, or you'll just end up getting whatever crap they want to give you.

End of last year they had them on for same price and I know I had to inspect four or five before I came across two I deemed acceptable. The lady behind the counter wasn't impressed I was taking so long (or even stripping them for that matter) but, like, you wouldn't buy a used car without checking out under the hood, right?

This Man is 100% correct. one time I went to a crappy tire to look at the sks rifles . I had this young guy taking care of me because I didn't like speaking to the older guy who he worked with . could tell he was an idiot as soon as he opened his mouth . anyways I had this guy bring me out at lest 15 to 20 sks rifles and I went through each one . I was telling him about stamps pros and cons and he was a good kid . finally picked one out . these were Russian ones. anyways I found out the buddy was old enough to drink beer so I bought him a 12 pack of beer and put it in the trunk of his car.

and to tell you the truth if I go into a place to buy something and they don't have time to show me several of the used items that they have in stock I'll walk out . it's my cash . even brand new I like to scope things over . now with this stupid virus it makes things tough . even grocery shopping is a pain . you all take care .

I have no experience with SKS
If I purchase one do I need to then hunt down parts and is it luck of the box what you get?

If you buy one out of a store and you have to hunt down parts then you take it back . I'm sure most if not all can be shot after cleaning . the most important thing with an sks is take it apart and clean all the grease out of it and make sure that you totally clean the bolt . you want to be able to shake the bolt in your hand and not only hear but see the firing pin slide back and forth . and don't grease or oil the firing pin . it has to free float .
