What is your intended use? There are so many options available for different uses. There are your standard stiffened leather or nylon belts ("instructors") that are 1.5" to 1.75" which can be worn for daily use and can be threaded through standard belt loops. There are "duty belt" gun belts, usually 2"-2.25" with a large plastic or cobra buckle (this is what you see most LE members using) they usually have an inner belt that is 1.5" wind and lined with velcro on the out side that mates with the velcro lining on the inside of the outer belt. Then there are "war belts" which usually require a belt to that runs through a channel to hold them up. These belts are typically padded, wider (2.5"-4") and covered in molle. And then there is what I would consider a hybrid of the duty belt and the war belt. This has become the in vogue belt. It is usually 1.75"-2" and utilizes the inner/outer belt system as well as 2 rows of "micro molle".
The aforementioned belts can be had from any where between $50 - $300 depending what you want and where you find it.
Personally I uses most often a stiffened leather belt for casual range trips (Mean Gene Victory Aegis), I use a 2" duty belt (inner/outer) system for work. And for my range antics I use an entry level "hybrid belt", however I am looking at up grading to a Persec molle belt.
Decide what you want to use it for and what your expectations of the belt are. If you are gonna hang a holster and a mag carrier from it a stiffened leather belt or "instructors" belt will do. If you are going to use it for competition and hang many (4+) mag pouches and a blaster and other stuff a double belt (inner/ outer, duty, hybrid) would be best. If you are going to invade a small country and want the ultimate in padded comfort then a war belt will fit the bill.
Hope this helps!
