Your Deer Rifle, what are you taking?

My standard is a Parker-Hale 30.06, with 150 gr., and my backup is an 8mm Mauser, with 180 gr. No foolin...that 8mm has slammed an awful load of deer, including a 182 non typical whitetail. It, believe it or not, is one of my favorites.

Short range around here , 125 yards tops . Marlin 94 Cowboy competition chambered in .45lc . 300 gr. hardcast gas checked Beartooth bullets or 300 gr. XTP's @ 1,750 fps with 23 grains of H110 , which is not a starting load . Bigger in diameter than a .30 cal. bullet and more energy to 150 yards than a 30-30 . After 125 yards it's dropping and after 150 yards it's dropping like a rock but it's an excellent 100 yard gun .

For deer hunting, I have something brand new this year :) A Win. M70 Classic Featherweight in .270 WSM :D It'll be wearing either a Leupold VariX III 2.5x8 or a Leupold Compact 3x9, I can't really make up my mind yet

And if something goes awry with the newbie, I always have the proven Win. M70 Featherweight .270 Win. for back up :D...

Primary is a 1956 vintage Winchester Model 94 - shooting 150 grain 30-30 Winchester.

Backup is a Winchester Model 1300 12 gauge shooting Winchester Supreme 385 grain sabot slugs.

The shotgun is not really a backup as I change my hunting style day to day so that each gun has its place.

deer hunting

I always take two rifles with me . first Marlin 336 CS in .35 Rem., 200 grain bullets , round nose , soft point , 39.5 gr., of 3031 , cci 200 primer , this rifle was made in 1958 , and it's still a great shooter and I think one of the best bush rifles around . Next is a Remington model 700 BDL ( custom shop rifle ) select walnut stock , ebony caps , factory recoil pad , engraved reciever , 22 inch barrel , in .270 Win., 150 gr., speer pointed soft point boattail bullets , at about 2700 f.p.s. sporting a Busch and Lome 1.5 X 4.5 scope , the Marlin has a straight 4X on it . while the deer hunt is on , so is the black bear season on , I hunt both ......later .... Joe

No back-up, just my new to me Benelli Argo R1 300 win mag. :D

But my 94 30-30 win is giving me sad looks everytime I'm about to leave for a backroad drive without it. :D

Ill likely have my little winchester M 92 in 44-40 (SRC Button mag) for some close up bush work in november this year, havent decided what I will bring for open field work.....
